Title: Laguna Rising - Liquid World Post by: Laguna Rising on March 23, 2008, 10:59:01 PM This is just a pre-mix version to let you know I'm alive and well (err.. I mean working for this project ;) )
I NEED your contribution (advice) to get a decent mix. Feel free to criticize it - we can't have a bad sounding track in our project - so spit it out Let me know if it works for you :-\ of course, this is my own interpretation of the theme... ::) Cheers Title: Re: Laguna Rising - Liquid World Post by: folderol on March 24, 2008, 03:15:07 AM Well it's 3am here so I'm listening relatively quietly :P
The tune certainly fits it's title, and I can't really hear anything out of kilter in the mix. I'll give it another go later today when I can wind the volume up some :) Title: Re: Laguna Rising - Liquid World Post by: folderol on March 24, 2008, 03:05:16 PM ... 12 hours later :)
Had another listen. Still can't hear anything wrong with the mix. It seems well spread spatially and the instruments seem clearly defined. I really like the way it starts. However, stylistically it seems to keep building up but never arrives, if you see what I mean, then rather abruptly ends. Title: Re: Laguna Rising - Liquid World Post by: Laguna Rising on March 24, 2008, 03:56:35 PM oK, THANKS ! ;D
I'll wait a couple of days before coming back at it hopefully I'll be more objective and open-minded Cheers Title: Re: Laguna Rising - Liquid World Post by: Martin E on March 24, 2008, 06:10:47 PM Nice track, Laguna. Lots of good ideas.
I don't totally agree with Folderol. I think the mix could do with a bit more stereospread. At certain places there's a lot going on and it would provide a clearer mix in these busy parts. Some of the leads could do with a bit more reverb or even better some delay to make them sound smoother. The ending is a bit abrupt and undecided. So compositionwise I would return to the part 0:22-1:00 at the end of the song and then close with the 0:00-0:22 part. That would make it more complete I think. Title: Re: Laguna Rising - Liquid World Post by: Laguna Rising on March 24, 2008, 06:23:58 PM Thanks a lot Martin ! you're advice from outside is useful (...and convincing...)
so let's make a list : - Check Pan position of every track - Try delay on moog leads (or rev) - Try to come back to the starting theme for the ending (yes, 2 of 2 don't like it :-\) Let's see if other regulars come up with more comments. I'll get back to it after a week rest (to better focus on it) Cheers Title: Re: Laguna Rising - Liquid World Post by: Martin E on March 24, 2008, 06:56:14 PM Thanks a lot Martin ! you're advice from outside is useful (...and convincing...) so let's make a list : - Check Pan position of every track - Try delay on moog leads (or rev) - Try to come back to the starting theme for the ending (yes, 2 of 2 don't like it :-\) Let's see if other regulars come up with more comments. I just felt there's room for more good stuff. ;D Title: Re: Laguna Rising - Liquid World Post by: Oren on March 25, 2008, 08:19:08 PM Some re-evaluation may be in order - I like the idea of some stereo separation and a bit of delay here and there to smooth things out - but don't be tempted to mess with perfection. The average listener may have difficulty relating to the L.R. vibe, but be careful not to water down your sound, Maestro ;D
It's your style - that whole build-up from serene beginning to a full-throttle joy-ride, ending suddenly with both feet on the brake pedal. Pure Laguna Rising - accept no substitutes.... :; Title: Re: Laguna Rising - Liquid World Post by: Laguna Rising on March 25, 2008, 08:55:18 PM :o Thanks a lot for the compliments Oren ! :-[
As I told, I'm waiting until the end of this week to approach it with 'fresh' ears... ...and I'm taking note of your suggestion. Cheers ;D |
