Title: The first KM live gig !
Post by: kara on March 27, 2008, 10:55:33 AM
OK, let's discuss this here  ;D

3 obvious questions
- Where ?
- When ?
- Who is comming ?

Where
We'll do this in a place called Zichem.
People comming by train can be picked up in Brussels.
Moon is investigating the possibilities in Belgium.
- I could bring my live PA, so we can make some noise
- Moon has a ,laptop based, 16 track recording solution
- Would everybody else bring some gear ? I think I'll bring my RM1X, which is perfect to deliver some basic bass & drums to layout a track. Azell certainly will bring here WX5 with the Vlm synth

When
July and August are out, to short, to many people in holliday....
What about a weekend in the first half of september ?

Who
For starters
- Moon
- Kara & Azell

Who else ?

Count me in! I'll certainly bring my Kore 2 along, along with probably my Fantom Xa.

Me as well, I'm very exited about it.
With a possibility to do it at our place in As (Belgium)
(Have to discus this further with my wife of course)

Great Percy  8)
As is somewhere near Genk if I remember right ? That's even more centralized then where Moon lives !

We should allso make a checklist of what gear we need... so that everybody knows what he has to bring.

We'll probably need a big mixer too... :) And everyone should bring some leads to connect to it. And we need to check whether power plugs are compatible with the gear that is brought.

Post by: kara on March 27, 2008, 06:18:38 PM
I can deal with mixers  ;D
I have a 16 channel and a 12 channel non amplified mixer, all Jack in
I can feed those 2 in a 8 channel amplified PA mixer
Which makes a 36 channel setup  ;D

As long as we have only Europeans comming, power plugs won't be a problem since this is an European standard.

Leads you'll have to bring (6,.. mm jack only), alltough I have a couple XLR inputs if we realy need it.

I'v got a 01X and i88 which is giving us a 16-track recorder...

With a 16 track recorder we don't even need a mixer :D

Yeah !!!

And if I look a bit on ebay, I can get a second i88 : that will give us a 24-multitracker. Let me know how many tracks you need and I'll be there !  :D

I must get myself a flight case for this...

If you do it in As, Marc can come over on his bicycle ! Certainly a tranquil and nice province, with the best public to play for ! Wow !
And close to the 3 countries point.  Good idea ! ;D

Cheers,

Max... .. . :;

PS : If I go, Iīd bring my Yamaha DD-55; thatīs my lightest and easiest to amplify instrument. ;)

And see all the mistakes that I made? Nono, lets first go over it with cut and paste and melodyne on my audio! ;)

J/K: a live stream would be cool, but it would be tough on the internet connection.

Is it Belgium then?

I'd like to research this possibility..

Instruments would be an issue for me with power and shipping.

Got extras anyone?
Maybe if I bring a trumpet it wouldn't be so bad...
Np promises but need a confirmed date range and location to research it.

Yes it will be Belgium, not sure yet about the exact location but at least we know allready the country  :P And Belgium is very small  ;)

Not sure about the date yet, we're thinking about a weekend in the first half of september, depending on agendas of all participants.

Don't worry about gear, there'll be a lot of keys, I'll bring my line6 bass guitar. And since you know something about blowing in a instrument, you'll have the occasion of trying the WX5 of Azell  8)

Would be great if you could join us  :-

I'm glad this is some months away to give time to think about it!
I'm certainly not fit enough to drive that far, but the boat in this picture (taken from my back window) is the Amsterdam ferry. I suppose I could get a train from there?
If I was carrying guitars on the train I wouldn't be able to carry camping kit so would possibly have to crash on someones floor?
There are possibilities....... ::)

By the way, I know it will be difficult to get people over from the US continent, but there's no reason why they should not have a US version of the KM live gig (hint,hint,...)

Nice idea, although it will take away a lot of 'magic'...
Belgium is indeed central and there are lots of facillities, infrastructure and gear, but a local organisation would be helpfull to give a hand.
After 21 years out of Belgium, my contacts need an update, some died and others retired (I presume).  A pitty, īcose we could have done it staying in a casttle, playing in itīs park...
Iīll try to fresh up my connections; thinking of Trix in Antwerp, they do software teaching etc...  My nephew is supposed to be 'hot' in the DJ and techno-world...  I even could check Vorst-Nationaal for free dates, but the acoustic is very bad there.
It is possible, but a lot of work; itīs just like organising a festival...

BTW, tx for your comment on my friendīs electronics, folderol ! Itīs was like hearing him talk again !

Cheers mates,

Max... .. .

Marc, I hope you're comming and on top of that, you'll find a place to make this happen  ;D It's growing fast  :o
And we want to have as much fun as possible  :P

As for a US version, location-wise Oren is as close to me as you are to Iraq, Kara. There's a few thousand miles between us.
So a jam here would take 'almost' as much effort as coming there!

I checked-
2000 miles to Vancouver...
3000 miles to Paris...

from Detroit, which is an hour south of here.

On a lighter note; I got my hot tub set up now. Spring is coming soon and I love sitting out there watching/listening to the birds.

BUT, right now it still looks like this around here (below)
How cold do you think that river is??
I know the hot tub is 104F degrees!

Title: Re: The first KM live gig !
Post by: Max el Belga on March 30, 2008, 07:20:14 PM
A hot-tub outside with 104F ! :- That makes a hell of a difference ! :; Letīs forget about Belgium and do it rhavīs place. ;)
Then the only problem would be : make sure that everybody can spend the same time in the hot-tub ! 8)
My Tanga-Girls are yelling all : "Yeah !" ???

Now just fixing a date and weīve done it again ! ;D
I love it when a plan falls together.

Ciao,

Max... .. . :; ...the man for simple and quick solutions.

Hmmm.

You'll have keys there you say. That would save me a lot of hard work - the only problem then would be to discover whether I could play anything in a group :o

The easiest thing for me would be to hop on Eurostar. That takes me straight into Brussels :)

I suppose i could drive there but I've never driven on the continent and wouldn't fancy that idea (especially driving on the 'wrong' side of the road) without a navigator.

Title: Re: The first KM live gig !
Post by: offthewall on March 30, 2008, 09:16:17 PM
Well I been checking out the cost for the Amsterdam ferry....and it's a rip-off! If you travel alone you have to pay as if there are two of you!.....So I may be looking at eurostar too, as my budget is extremely limited.
Unless I drive down to folderol-land and then we share the driving from there. I'm (physically) limited to how far I can drive these days (poor old soul).
Still....plenty of time to look into things.

Suggestion for the English people : youīd better donīt come by car, unless youīre a Kamikaze (too much traffic !).
What about flying ? In England you get the cheapest flight tickets !
In Belgium and Holland are even more instruments than cars, so no problem on that side, I suppose.
Very important might also be what and how to play.

Cheers,

Max... .. . :;

Title: Re: The first KM live gig !
Post by: kara on March 31, 2008, 11:54:17 AM
Eurostar is propably a good solution, and if I remember right you can get cheaper tickets if you book early in advance...
We could pick you up at Brussels railway station, no need for driving on the 'right' side of the road then :D

There will be plenty of keys, Moon has a couple, I'll bring a couple,...
I'll bring allso one my bass guitars, propably the Line6, since that one has a DI-box that can be plugged in a mixer.
So, no need to travell gear !
Except for guitars... don't have any of these and Moon neither

Could we perhaps have a running number of people who are coming on the first post of this thread? Something like:

Will come: x, y, z
Will try to come (good chance): a, b
Wants to come (but little chance): c, d

Where of course the letters are the names. It would be handy to quickly get an idea of how many people are coming. Of course I realise that this is not definitive and will change but it will offer a centralised place to see these things.

Technics were nice boards; very nice.  They should have done better and sold more.  Must have been lack of advertising as the price was good.

I don't know how everyone could post in the same post, Marc.  Unless kara wants to keep editing it.
The language barrier should make things interesting too!

I made a sticky for this and I'll keep the first post up to date.

The lanuage barrier ? Which one ? We all speak music and a A chord is the same all over the world, me thinks  ;D
OK,ok we'll do an effort, English will be the official language of the gig  :D
But you guys be nice and leave your Manhatan slang at home  ::) ;D

I don't want anyone to have to learn English- it's a tough language.

I'm sure there will be enough guys there that can translate.  Besides- if I come I'll want to learn some new chords and some new words.
I was just commenting on how many interesting facets there would be to such a gig; music would indeed be the common language.

English'll do fine for me, for the rest I can do Dutch and Germand and a tiny bit of French - mais vous doit parler tres lentement! :D

In any case, I believe we'll have plenty of translators and like it has been said: we all speak music!

In the north of Belgium people speak mostly 4 languages (not at the same time) and everybody speaks and understands English in that part of Europe.  More important : food, booze, etc... wonīt be a problem either !
The weather could be something different...  What about some of those umbrella-girls from the F1 races, in case of rain !?

Without thinking Iīd answer : YES, but early september, flights to Europe are still at high season price level (equal to or even higher than the price of a Yamaha Silent Guitar)...  ???
If I can get something fixed, Iīll be there.

Of course, Iīd swim to Belgium, but then my drums could get wet...

Maybe we have a member here that owns an airplane company; that would solve the problem immediately. ;) Anybody ?...

Letīs cross our fingers, cheers

OK, some time has passed...

If we want to make the first live GIG a fact, someone better start to organize this. So this is what I have:

- When: 20 & 21 September
- Where: Belgium - a place called Zichem
- How to reach: If you make it to Belgium, find a railstation. The location is at walking distance from a railway station.
- Cost: KM rented a space where we can gig, sleep, eat, etc (actually, I've found a very generous sponsor !)
- Recording gear ok: 16 track studio with DAW (still need some mic's and stands)
- PA gear OK
- Synths OK: Korg M3, Virus TI & Access G2X
- Bass guitar OK
- Food: Belgian fries and chineese take away (we're doing this low budget!  ;) )

We'll also have some Belgian beer which is off coarse the best beer in the world !  ;D

What you'll need to bring:
- Camping gear (a blanket and an air matrass is enough)
- Your musical mood and laughter
- You're instrument (if possible)

Places are limited, so please let me know if you'll come.

I hope some of you will make this !

Moon

OK.

I've got this logged in my diary. I'm pretty certain I can make it. If I get the very earliest and latest Eurostar trains, that will get me to Brussels just after 10am Saturday. I would have to be back in Brussels by about 8pm on the Sunday.

The problem I then have is getting to and from Zichem without losing too much time - any ideas?

Despite the fact is in holliday, we are getting organized  ;D

So, we'll have

- The PA, 1200 W output, should be enough to make some noise  ;D
- 10 channel amplified mixer and 12 channel sub-mixer with line & mic entries
- Boss BR600 hardware audio recorder, propably back-uped by a laptop of Moon.
- Moon is bringing the keyboards, if someone is interested to try I could bring my Clavia Nord Modular.
- Bass guitar with 50 W amp
- To make sure that you can travell as light as possible, we organized beds allso, so the only thing you have to take is a sleeping bag.
- Food isn't a problem neither, we have a big outside barbecue.

Did I forget something ?

Right, decision made. I will definitely be coming to the live gig (baring rail-strikes etc.)

I'll be getting my Eurostar tickets at the end of the month, or beginning of August, so nobody change the dates after that :o

P.S.
Guess I'll have to get a new pair of carpet slippers :)

Did I forget something ?

k

I'll be bringing my Yamaha 01X and I88 so we'll have a 16 tracks multirecorder. Don't forget to bring some mic's...

If anyone is bringing a really low action guitar I might be tempted to try a bit of rhythm playing - Doubt I'd last long though I haven't touched a guitar since the 1970s :-\

Things are looking a bit more positive.
Advice needed >  ???
As I am not a traveller (only been outside the UK once), can anyone tell me if there are restrictions on carrying items such as microphones/cables/tuners/electronic equipment in hand luggage. This is in respect of Eurostar.
I am hoping to be able to squeeze acoustic and electric guitar into one case and put all the above mentioned kit in my carpet slippers in my hand luggage.
 ;)

I'm not aware of any restrictions. I think you can have two items of luggage plus one small hand luggage. These don't have to be checked in at all unless they are exceptionally large.

I've once traveled with a fully loaded large rucksack and nobody said a word - was a few years ago though. I rather suspect that if you don't say anything, neither will they!

I travell a lot and can confirm this. No need to checkin luggage, if you can carry it , you can take it with you  :)

ok, we have to agree about a key for the song.
For the bass it isn't 'realy' important, you know we just slide fingers up or down a fret  Grin
Azell can sing in 'almost' any key, Bm is fine but allso Am, and Am is an easy key for keyboard players, I think I've never played a song in Bm on a keyboard...

I think what is important are the penny whistles of James, I know that you can't play in any key on those....

James ?

k
Bm or Am. I can work with either.
 ;)
James

I've copied this across to here because I think it's the right place for it now!

I don't know who else will be at the gig who has an opinion but I'd prefer Am - just because it's easier :P

This all makes me wonder of there are any other tunes that we might especially want to look at. We won't have a great deal of time so having some ideas before we start might be a 'good thing' (tm)

A question about kit.
It's been many, many years since I did any live gigging so am not up to speed on the type of kit that you have available.
At home I do all my recording through a small Behringer mixer. Acoustic guitars/bass/whistles are all through mics into the mixer (one at a time). Electric guitars/bass/keyboards are direct input through the mixer.
Simply....if I bring acoustic guitar and mic, will this go straight into your mixing equipment or do I need to bring my mixer too? If I bring electric guitar, would this go into anything you have there or do I need to bring an amp (or the mixer as a d/i box) which can be mic'd up?
 ;)
James

Post by: kara on August 03, 2008, 05:00:51 PM
For accoustic you don't have to bring anything, beside instrument, I have 3 mic's, which should be enough I think.
For electric, I have a small (old) Crate guitar amplifier, it doesn't do wonders but it works  ;)

Don't forget cables, we are allways short in cables  ;D
Mixing is not an issue, i have 2 mixers.

ok, then it will be Am :D (do you have chord chart ?)

As for other songs I have a couple propositions.

For saterday
I propose that we start with a couple of covers to warm up ;D
- Since we ruined the recording of 'House of the rising sun' on the 87PM concert, I propose we redo this one. I think everybody knows this one (it's in AM). We could even make a mixed lanuage version English - French (James - Azell). In case somebody doesn't know the song, I can send a midi file.
- Azell would like to record 'Mamy blue'. Same story, 2 possibilities, James lead vocals and Azell second voice, or otherway around. If you don't know the song, you can find it on youtube (in english and in french (http://fr.youtube.com/results?search_query=mamy+blue&search_type=)
It's a very easy song to play and if you want I can post a midi file of it.
- We would allso like to record another french song with you guys, I'll send the midi file here when I'm back home.

Saterday evening
I hope that 87PM will give an extract of there live concert :D
And eventually a demo by Marc of Kore 2 which he knows very well.

Sunday

- Folderoll song with lyrics
- James song (can you send me something ?)

What do you think of this ?

 :o
It's good to set out with some sort of formula.....but.....
First, I got to say that I only started to attempt singing very recently...have never sung in front of anyone in my life...have a very restricted range.....and can't play and sing at the same time!!

My song (In the Studio) you already have.
Rising Sun is fine, but I don't think I have enough vocal range for it.
Mamy Blue, I have never heard of before.

I was hoping we could come up with some *more original* collab material to prove that what we do online can be done in the real world.....if anyone has any ideas to submit.

I had rather thought about suggesting a *live* rendition of Folderol's 'All of my Sunrises'. The possibilities of having the composer to play the melody, with Kara on bass, and a bunch of synth players to make a real *orchestral* build up with a whistle break before the final verse, seemed like a chance not to be missed.

I also seem to remember Marc proposing a piece, some time ago, which would be good for collective live work.
 ;)
James

ok lets make compromises  ;D

1. House of the rising sun with Azell
2. Mamy blue with Azell, and a small backing choir for the second voice.
This is a very easy, 3 chords song. I'll post a midi file of it
This will be 2 quick takes to get used to play together and check the whole setup  ;D

3. Folderol's 'All of my sunrises', you can find the song here : http://www.kara-moon.com/forum/index.php?topic=1945.0
A chord chart for this one would nice  :)

4. In the studio. A good idea, I forgot about this one  :-[
5 The new version of Folderol's 'here we go again', I've just posted the french lyrics for it.

Perhaps we'll have the time do do another one, feel free to propose. Marc ?

I'm very flattered and somewhat embarrassed that two of my songs are being put forward for this gig. I do hope that doesn't result in songs from others (that are every bit as good) being left out.

Here are the chords for 'All Of My Sunrises' as sung by James, this might not be the best key for everyone (it'll be a pig to play on keyboard). It is F modulating to Bb. I orignally played it as C to F. Of course, the intro and bridges could be changed to suit as well.

Intro
Am, Gm, Gm, C

Verse 1
F, Dm, Gm, C
Bb, Eb, F, F
F, Am, Gm, Bb
Eb, Cm, F, F
F, Am, Gm, Bb
C7, C, F, F

Bridge 1
Am, Gm, Gm, C

Verse 2
F, Dm, Gm, C
Bb, Eb, F, F
F, Am, Gm, Bb
Eb, Cm, F, F
F, Am, Gm, Bb
C7, C, F, F

Bridge 2
Am, Gm, Bb, C

Verse 3
F, Dm, Gm, C
Bb, Eb, F, F
F, Am, Gm, Bb
Eb, Cm, F, F
F, Am, Gm, Bb
C7, C, F, F

Key Change
F, Am, Cm, Eb

Verse 4
Bb, Gm, Cm, F
Eb, Ab, Bb, Bb
Bb, Dm, Cm, Eb
Ab, Fm, Bb, Bb
Bb, Dm, Cm, Eb
F7, F, Bb, Bb

Here are the Chords for 'Who Cares' as originally played in Am
The repeating chords I mostly played as different inversions to keep the sense of movement. Also there are small differences between the verses. I'd be quite open to suggestions for improvements here.

One chord I can never work out -  but often use - has the individual notes marked as (FBD)

Intro

Verse 1

Am Am G G F F G G7
Am Am G G Dm Dm G G

Am Am G G F F G G
Am Am F F Dm Dm G G
Am Am G G Dm (FBD) C C

Bridge
Em Em Dm Dm Am Fmag7 G G
Em Em Dm Dm Am Fmag7 Dm Dm

Verse 2

Am Am G G F F G G
Am Am G G F Dm G (FBD)

Wow, I kinda missed a bit of the last two pages. Seems all very cool though and on behalf of Percy and myself, we'd love to play a few of our songs! I'd also like to propose that I play Rendez Vous IV with Moon - he's GOING TO PLAY THAT! ;)

I'm not too familiar with the other songs but I'll see what I can do and - in any case - Percy's a great gig player so I'm sure that he will be able to step in. At least we already know he plays a great House of the Rising Sun! :D

I'm really looking forward to all this!

James

I may be your forgotten son
who wandered off at twenty one
it's sad to find myself at home

oh ma.

If I could only hold your hand
and say I'm sorry yes I am
I'm sure you really understand
oh
Ma
where are you now.

Oh
Mamy
oh
Mamy - Mamy - blue
oh
Mamy - Blue

The house we shared upon the hill
seems lifeless but it's standing still
and memories of childhood days
fill my mind
oh Mamy
Mamy
Mamy.

I've seen enough of different lights
seen tired days and lonely nights
and now without you by my side
I'm lost
how can I survive.

Oh
Mamy...

Nobody who takes care of me
who loves me
who has time for me
the walls look silent at my face
oh
Ma
so dead is our place.

The sky is dark
the wind is rough
and now I know what I have lost
the house is not a home at all
I'm leaving
the future seems so small.

Cool idea! Percy and I once played this song (albeit a simplified version as I recall) so I'd love to give this one a go. We'll have to bring a big bell for that one though...  :)

The grass was greener...

I would love to hear that played by you 2

Long time ago though - and it really needs that Dave Gilmour guitar sound! But the main piano stuff is pretty simple (at least the way I play it).

I should be able to give a translation of this. I've never been one for learning to copy other peoples work, but I can do my own version. Will it be in the original key? (Cm/Cm7/Ab, etc)

In saying this, I'm afraid there is a bit of a shadow hanging over my trip at the moment. A bunch of domestic problems. I don't think I will really know until the last minute.   :'(

I'm realy looking forward to this,  it will be great !
Without telling any secrets, Moon prepared something (which I saw as a video  8) ) which is a great performance and demo of the M3 and the virus.

We'll have fun.

Marc, if you want the exact address, send me a pm or a mail, you know how to find me  ;D

For people to be picked at Brussels, I'll pick them up.

Only one week left  :;

We're gonna have some fun here

So, here are the planned tracks (not in order of playing)
- House of the rising sun with Azell
- Mamy blue with Azell, and a small backing choir for the second voice.
- Folderol's 'All of my sunrises'
- In the studio from Ofthewall.
- The new version of Folderol's 'here we go again', with french lyrics.
- 87PM - Some extract of there CD
- Moon prepared a very nice demo song with his M3 & virus
- Marc's Golden skies ?

We'll have some fun here :D

Some pratical stuff
- Don't forget to bring audio cables, we don't have enough of them
- We have a couple of sleeping bags, but if some of you could bring your own, just to be sure we'll have enough.

@Folderol : Do I have to bring my linux laptop or do you bring your own ?
@ Percy : Can you bring your keyboard stand with your keyboard ?
@ James ; Do you bring an electric guitar or just an accoustic?

That's about it me thinks ;D

I'm not sure about *In the Studio* as I'm not sure if everyone has had time to work out parts for it!
And...I thought we were going for *High Hopes* (Pink Floyd)...I been learning some of that.

Definitely electric, but will try to bring acoustic as well if I can manage to carry them :-X

You have your name on a sleeping bag :)

In the studio shouldn't be a problem i think, as a structure it's pretty simple, with a bit of live exercise we should eb able to do it.

High hopes is another story, that is definitifly not a simple song.
I won't have the time to look at this one, I'm again most part of this week in Schotland.

After a somewhat ragged week or so, my life has once more calmed down to mere chaos :D

So, here I am.

It seems that Eurostar are running a service again after the tunnel fire, and this seems to be a progressively improving situation. Times may be slightly skewed but James and I should get there OK. I've got a sleeping bag I think I've used all of twice over the years, so I shall evict the moths and bring it along :)

If you can bring a Linux laptop DAW that would be very good. I don't have a laptop at all. I have my main desktop beastie, and a small, semi-portable machine that runs just ZynAddSubFX, but that would need keyboard, monitor etc. so would be a pain to transport.

I don't have any audio leads (worth admitting to) but I do have a Midisport 2x2 and a pair of quite long MIDI cables if that would be of any help.

I must have another listen to 'In The Studio' and try to get up to speed with it. Mixed French and English should be interesting 8)

I've been getting a bit of practice with Mammy Blue, and also re-aquainting myself with 'House Of The Rising Sun'.

I'll remind myself how to play 'All Of My Sunrises', but being a lazy tyke I'll probably work in Am/C and rely on the synths ability to key-shift. I'll also do a bit more with 'Who Cares'. (I think two threads on the forum got mixed up here.) As I composed these, it really would not do for me to be struggling to play them ::)

Phew! Now lets see if I can have a look at other parts of the forum :P

Well it seems like we will have an enormous amount of material to work with in just a weekend :o

I think we need to work on the basis that if we find we are getting bogged down on a tune, we should leave it and move on, then if there's time, come back to it. After all, the music won't go away, so we can always develop further on the forum if we want to.

Besides we need to have material for Live Gig number 2  ;D

OK, I've had to make a sad decision here.
Because of the Eurostar problems and the fact that they have issued a reduced timetable, up to and including next Sunday, the connections I need to make for my trip are out of the question.
I shall have to cancel  :(
This decision has not been taken lightly and, if I had not already submitted a *sad* song to the other contest I would be writing one now.  :'(

If I can make a radical suggestion.....
I shall be at home on Saturday and Sunday afternoon so if the performing company have the facilities to record a take for a song, send me an MP3 of the mix, I will try to add my part in a single take (as if live) and send it back for remixing.  Maybe, in this way, I can keep to the spirit of the get-together.
I shall have to be content with looking forward to next year....and hope that dear Eurostar don't stuff it up again.  :-X

Unfortunately things have just got worse :(

As I was booked on a much earlier train (James' one was actually cancelled) I had thought my chances of avoiding the problems were better, however, after getting an email from Eurostar advising me to change my booking unless my travel was essential, I telephoned them to find out what the situation really was.

It seems that late Friday bookings are being pushed over to Saturday morning. As I would be joining the train at Ebbsfleet (not London). It became obvious that the likelihood of getting my designated seat were pretty near zero. The next train was canceled (the one James would have been on), which meant the one after that would be even more likely to be oversubscribed. When asked, the woman said that realistically it was unlikely I've be able to get a train before the middle of the afternoon, when demand is low - well what a surprise >:(

To make matters worse, I was told that the Sunday return could be pushed over to Monday (for the same reasons) so I'm afraid I won't be able to make it either :'(

This is bitterly disappointing as I was really psyched up for this and looking forward to a great weekend. I'm angry, but with nobody to be angry with, if you know what I mean.

Since our UK friends can't come, the list of participants is becoming realy small.
I have a proposition :
Since in December I'm celebrating my 50th birthday, why not postpone the KM live gig to December ?
We could do it in France...
Marc and Percy could come together with Moon, and Uk participant can come to Britany with the TGV Paris - Saint Brieuc.
I have enough sleeping accomodation and perhaps, since there is more time to plan others could come too ?

What do you think ?

Time to start planning !

Kara, we need a date and place so people can reserve their tickets.

As far as I understood:

Date: to be set by Kara
Place: Bretagne
Accommodations: free of charge ?
Foods: Azell is a great "chef de cuisine"
Drinks: No better place than France
Musical program: stays the same

I'll bring our friends from Holland and Belgium (Marc, Percy : don't be scared, I'm a better driver than musician and if you leave your lugage at home, I'm sure to get those keyboards in the car ;D )

I hope we'll have more success with this second trial.

P.S.: Our hostess for September is really pissed now, so someone better dedicate a song to her  :P

Well, I was really excited by the prospect of a December gig (especially with a birthday thrown in) so I looked up the trains on Rail Europe.

From London - Paddington to Saint Brieuc is a 6 hour journey time :( Catching the very earliest Eurostar would have me arriving at 2:15pm, and this train doesn't stop at Ebbsfleet, so I would have to find some way to get to central London before 6am :o This all assumes that Eurostar is back to normal, which is doubtful. The 1996 fire resulted in one tunnel being closed for 6 months :(

I really, really want to come to this, but unless someone can suggest a way out of the problem, I just can't see how it can be done :'(

@Moon : Can I please have some time to organize this  ::) ;D

ok here is what I have allready :
The place is : Saint Nicolas du Pelem in Britany in the west of France. For those who have Google Earth, here are the coordinates :
48°18'51.95N - 3°09'39.140

Date : The weekend of 20 - 21 December 2008
Accomodations : free of charges, we even have real beds for everybody  ;) The Uk people that could come, will be hosted by our UK neighbours, no language problem  ;)
I allready have reserved the rehearsal room of the choral of Azell, so plenty of place for the gear and it can be locked for the night.
Food will be taken care off by Azell
Drinks is NEVER a problem in France.

@Folderoll: couldn't you come on the friday, you're welcome to stay an extra night (or 2) here.
Another possibility would be flying, there is a connection London - Brest, I just have to find out from which airport in London it goes

Other questions ?  ;D

Litle update for Will : Ryan Air has a cheap flight London Luthon - Brest and back. I can pick you up at Brest

Just checked the ryan air site :
London - Brest : Not available on 19th but available on 18th for 23,55 GBP
Brest - London : Available on the 23th for 63,99 GBP

I've allso found a solution to Dinard which is close to my place :
London Standsted - DInard : 19/12 15.35
Dinard - London Standsted : 22/12 18.10

Or other solution : Take the train to Portsmouth and then the ferry to Saint Malo

I have an Audi A6 break with a roof box, so we should be able to take a lot of stuff with us. Our lugage can be put in the roof top. I think my trunk is big enough for 5-octave keyboards (wrapped in blankets, or even better in a flight case. I'm sure we can work something out (although I'l have to leave my M3 at home which is too big with 73 keys... )

Off coarse, if you prefer to fly or take the train... no problem !

my wife says that if it is in spring, say round about easter time, we could maybe work it into a weeks holiday. She would like to do Brittany.
Any chance of that?  ::)
 ;)

That's actually a rather clever idea. I've never actually visited France myself, so would be quite interested in doing something similar.

The gig in december will take place, it's my birthday and i want to celebrate with music ;D
But, James and Will, if you want to come in holliday to Bretagne in spring, you are more then welcome to stay at my place. I have room enough and we can organize a UK gig.
I live in the middle of Bretagne, which means that in any direction you want to visit, it is max 1,5 hour drive

Quite right too  ;) If you can go live with any of this I'll be watching on the Saturday, and possibly the Sunday morning.

That's a great offer. James and I will have to get our heads together :)

With the tunnel up and running properly by then, I'd be very inclined to come by car - That'd be a first too :)

After a long of silence I'm resurrecting this tread  ;D

I think most of the silence was due to the fact that all particants where composing and rehearsing  :D
Everybody is gearing up now for the gig, who takes place in Bretagne next Saturday !
And for those who don't come, you'll certainly miss something  :-\

We have the choir 'Echo du Faodel' who will perform a couple of strictly vocal numbers. They will sing a couple of typical Breton songs and a number expecially writen for the gig !
We (Kara & Azell) will perform as the Kaaz duo with 6 brand new songs composed especially for the gig.
Moon has also written a couple of new songs, which he will perform, some solo, some with the other artists.
And of course, last but not least, the great band 87PM, with a couple of covers and there great songs from there CD

First the good news... Moon promissed that he will be able to record the full show  8)
Now the bad news, the place where we do the gig doesn't have a broadband connection, so we won't be able to stream the video in realtime, sorry guys  :-[

I am really looking forward to this

It's great to know you'll be recording. If you'd been able to do a live feed, I'd have almost certainly been glued to it instead of doing my packing, so I guess that good news and bad news ::)

No more news from the GIGers.

Is it because:

They are having such a great time, they forgot to stop.
They're all down the local night club.
They had a big row and aren't talking to each other.
Somebody forgot to pay the electric company.

No more news from the GIGers.
Is it because:

...perhaps they've encountered a "Woodstock" moment.................."OK folks, we have a report that there is trouble with the brown acid...I repeat, do not try the brown acid" ...........whoops, too late...! :D ;D ::)
