Title: I Love to Hate My Computer
Post by: Wyatt on September 14, 2008, 08:33:59 PM
Dedicated to all my friends at the K-M Live-Gig..

..and all my friends who can't make it this year.

This is a song I wrote to send on to the live-gig..then it was looking like
James wasn't going to make it either. What, no guitar player??  Yikes!!

Anyway..James stopped by and we had a real toe-tapping time, out
on the front porch..especially with him playing the bass and acoustic
guitar at the same time!!  Yep, you should'a seen it.   ;D

A classic folk maneuver!
Arlo Guthrie and John Prine come to mind - this is good ;)

For my taste, just keep the vocal and the acoustic guitars; they are strong on their own, and the rest ends up sounding like interference. (which sort of supports the theme of your song - I know :D, but it's really too good to mess with)

Another beauty from Louise - that chopper has a V-twin knuckle-head with a kicker - say 1956 vintage - are you really that old? :;

I agree with you wholeheartedly.

That interference is entirely my fault. James' bass track was a real addition, and his guitar track is nice and live and clean.

Originally I made a reference track..recording it with my close pattern mic..(my only mic, besides my harp honker). So the plan was to make a new separate guitar and vocal track, but I was too tired to try to sing again after singing the contest song..and I wanted to get this done *before* the live gig.

James' guitar track is lovely, but my artifact sounding guitar in the back of my reference vocal track is really hammering the potential clarity right into the ground.   :(

So much for the “On the porch” mix…

…for the studio version, I will re-record the vocal, and then add a little bit of a second guitar, and then we can have a listen with and without  the bass. I’d be interested in your opinion.

..that old knucklehead is a 1940..some lucky feller has himself a nice scooter there.

Btw..I’m not *that* old..but once you get to a certain point, the mileage counts more than the model year.  ;D

Excellent folk story  ;D

Thanks Will. That is exactly how the song evolved..beginning, middle, and end.
The ending was a surprise..I didn't see it coming.

Personally, I think the only thing that spoils it is the drum track.....I didn't see no drummer on that porch!
 ;)

Yes, definitely!

Both these versions are better than the original.

Drummers are a special kind of person... gotta love 'em  :D

Version 1 takes it!

Keep the bass without the drummer (you can't expect from me to say to fire the bass player don't you ;D )

I actually wonder why we don't have drummers on the forum... don't those guys use internet ???

Haha..I got a kick out of that.

Yeah, I am liking the bass too. That was the first track James sent me, and it made the song come alive.
