Title: A different approach to spam
Post by: folderol on October 09, 2008, 09:26:01 PM
I've noticed that almost all the spam we get appears in the very first thread, whatever it happens to be.

Why not make the very first thread a dummy one titled something like:

'A place for everything we really don't want to look at'

Then make it auto-delete every day :D

What a rather splendid idea .....

Try moving it to be the first topic in the section. That's where the generally post most often.

And so it is.

I think we can call this an 'unfortunate' success then  :o

I was wondering where the first one was going to be posted...

I'll have a look for an auto-delete...

This is a most ingenious solution to a problem faced by every web site. And here, rather than use "spamware" that can adversely affect the performance of site software, we just give them a place to post their garbage, and remove it as quickly as it shows up.

Congratualtions, folks! Brilliant :;

Sometime, the simplest ideas are the best  ;)

Glad we sorted this one out.

P.S.: there's no possibility to delete the posts autamatically in this thread, meaning someone still have to delete them...

Is there a way to make the posts in this section need approval before going public??  This worked very well at audiominds..

Not sure of the admin possibilities in this forum software.
