I did  ;) and this is what I've found:

"Mammy Blue" is a sad song composed by Hubert Giraud (born 1920) and Phil Trim.

Apparently, Nicoletta didn't wrote the song !

OK, Hubert Giraud is French, that counts. And Phil Trim ? Neeeeh... hasn't written the song... but he did wrote the lyrics of the english version.

This is what I have found on the web:

Seems 'Mamy Blue' was written by Frenchman Hubert Giraud. He got the idea for it in a traffic jam apparently! After that, the sequence of events is unclear. At some point Giraud sent it to an Italian producer and it was recorded by 16-year old Ivana Spagna. Joel Dayde picked it up and had a hit with it in France and so too did Nicoletta. Meantime Los Pop Tops' Phil Trim got hold of it and wrote English lyrics for it, and had a minor hit in US and UK. Joel Dayde's English version went to #3 in Australia, and Roger Whittaker had a UK hit with it too. It's hard to establish who first had a hit with it, because most of these versions charted around the same time (late '71). I guess one thing is certain - the first person to actually sing it was Hubert Giraud in that fateful traffic jam!

Conclusion: don't believe anything that's on wikipedia !!! Certainly not the frensch version  ;D

P.S.: Nicoletta did performed this song though... so it remains french  ;D
