Title: Our friend, Wyatt.
Post by: Oren on May 15, 2010, 01:20:21 AM
Kevin Parks is the gentleman's name, and his wife, Louise contacted me through our site messaging system. I suspect she meant this note for us all:

"Kevin died April 28, 2010 after an unsuccessful trip to a Mexico clinic.  As his wife, I watched how much you all meant to him, and how much you added to these last two years of his life.  Because of your friendship and help with his music, he hardly had time to notice how sick he was.

Thank you all so very much
Louise Parks"

Thanks, Oren, for relaying the message to us.

My thoughts go out to Louise. She has been his rock.

I think you all know what Wyatt meant to me. We did so much work together and he was a total inspiration.

The Elderly Brothers will not be finished, however.
I still have a folder full of bits and pieces from him that we have been working on, some finished and some 'in progress', which I shall continue to produce.

Yes indeed, many thanks to Oren for the message. In addition to many collaborative efforts Kevin & I have partaken in,I am also very fond of our many conversations via e-mail and I wish I had the opportunity to visit him & shake my friend's hand.
Kevin is in my thoughts everyday & even though I never had the pleasure of communicating with his wife Lousie,my heart goes out to her for her immense loss & I wish her all the best.

This is a great loss to our community.

Although I never met Kevin we did a couple of collaborations together and we did communicate via email quite frequently.  I will miss him.

My prayers go out to Louise.

This is very sad news  >:( Kevin known here as Wyatt was a great guy and a very special musician. I've never met a musician like him before, he was able to think 'out of the box' and take a song in a very special direction.

My special thoughts  and condolences to Louise
We will all miss him here

I find I'm still coming to terms with this, even though I half suspected. What I find very moving is the number of tributes both here and over on KVR.

I wonder if there is any way to let Louise know about them all.

Will,
I have been talking to Louise by e-mail these past two days.

Needless to say she is totally devastated, but I have told her about the many tributes, for which she is eternally grateful.
When the time is right I will try to direct her to some of the musical tributes, if she so wishes.

This is our goodbye to Kevin...

Title : The liquid silver

Lyrics :
An artist above the common
A great Strat player
He played his style
Adding his proper touch
He played in all venues
Giving a lot of pleasure
for a audience that loved him

One day, he had a plan
wanted to sail the ocean
He build his sailing-boat
And left sailing
He visited the planet
With all his dreams in his head
With Louise and his luggage
Showing here the most beautiful beaches

Chorus:
The liquid silver, almost fluid
A very precious metal
For a happy artist
The liquid silver
You'll always be with us
I know you can see us
From up there, above us all

Verse :
An artist above the common
A great Strat player
He played his style
Adding his proper touch
He played on the Internet
Together with us, his faithful fans
Now, he doesn't play any more
No, he won't play again....

I hope Louise will hear this song

Rony,

Thanks for making this a 'sticky' ... well done.

Your song is just SO beautiful.
I wish I could get a grasp of your language. The translation is probably nowhere near to what you really mean!

Once again ... it makes me feel the 'guitarism' coming out of my fingertips ... so it must be good, from Wyatt's point of view. I been sitting here playing along with it and thinking of him doing the same.  :'(

James,

It is indeed very hard to express the same feeling when translating a text from one language to another.
BTW for this song i wrote the lyrics myself, which is an exception, normally Azell writes our lyrics.

I'm sure Kevin would have loved that one

This piece started as my entry to New Beginnings.  However I’ve been in a funk since hearing about Kevin.  Although I never met him I came to know and love him through our emails.  He was a genuine great guy and my friend. So I thought why not finish this and dedicate it to him.

Thus this is a song about how I feel.  I’m very sad at our loss and my guitar gently weeps for him.  He is now pain free and in a better place but those he left behind are very sad now that he is gone.  Rest in peace my friend.

Mario,

Some of the most beautiful tunes come from one's anguish and this very lovely song most certainly encapsulates what your going through & brother,I share your pain every day.

This is one of your best tunes to date and throughout this song,I was hearing a bass line in my head....I would love to add a bass track to this & perhaps a touch of this or that,if you're up for a collab.

Exquisite work here my friend,

-Thom

Mario,

This is a truly wonderful piece of work.
It was lovely to hear his congas creeping in there in the middle section.  8)

On another note .... I just LOVE those string sounds  :-*
This is exactly the sound that I wish I could introduce into some of my songs.  I have to presume that this is 'expensive' software?  I'm certain that I wouldn't be able to do this with 'freeby's '.  ::)

No problem IF you are in no hurry.  The weather is nice here now and I have a ton of outside yard work to do.

James, thanx for the very kind review.

The string sounds come from three sources, Digital Solid State Orchestra (a set of sounds I purchased for Kontakt), and from two old hardware synths  a Roland String Emsemble M-SE1 and a Roland JV-880.

You can achieve similar results with the free ones if you layer three of the same track and slightly detune one track up and another track down a few cents while keeping the third track as is.  Then add a concert hall reverb preset to the tracks. The concert hall reverb adds a lot of character to the sounds, even at low levels.

I hope this helps - MarioD

I got an email one day out of the blue.
Wyatt had heard an mp3 from a 35 year old tape of my old band that we tried to salvage.
He said, "I hope you don't mind...I took the liberty of cleaning this up for you.  I'd like to do any more that you have, if it's okay".
He did a wonderful job with what he had to work with.

I emailed back..."what would the cost be"?
His reply?  "Nothing.  I just thought it should be done.  I like your music".
I was pleased & honored that he would offer & eventually do this.

I never knew he was sick.  I hope he knows what I thought of him as a person.
He was special to his wife, I'm sure.  I hope someday she knows how special he was to many of us.

My prayers go out to her.

Mick

Our friend never stopped learning and developing his talents no matter how unwell he was.

So, in perfect health, the least I can do is attempt to recover my long forgotten guitar and harp skills. The tune fits my thoughts. He'd probably think it's awful, but would appreciate the effort!

Thank you everyone. I'm still a bit shaken by the way we lost Kevin, so was determined to give this my absolute best shot. Your comments have strengthened my resolve to go forward and not slip back to easier synth-only. On Wednesday I'll be going to a major music shop/warehouse looking for a new guitar.

It would have been his birthday today (or tomorrow, not sure if 8th or 9th) so I thought I would take the opportunity of digging this one out of the closet.
I was reminded of it because of the KVR contest being 'percussion only' this month. I'm not submitting this over there but I want to share it with them anyway.
This was for 'our' contest back in September 2008 when we were given a drum-loop to work with. Wyatt came up with these superb lyrics so we put it out as the Elderly Brothers.  His wife, Louise, did the picture.

Update.

I have finally finished off our long awaited album 'The Elderly Brothers Ride Again'.
As a special tribute I have sub-titled it 'Across The Waves'.

It comprises 22 tracks and a full descriptive brochure and will be going on-line (hopefully) at the end of this month as a free download in both MP3 and OGG formats, thanks to Kara and Moon for this.

I have already burned a hard copy and sent it off to Louise who was so delighted that she has requested another six copies for family and friends who are not computer users, so could not get the download versions.

Watch this space, Wyatt fans.  8)

I was in a repression with this very sad message.Wyatt was my teacher in song mastering and gave me a help in making a mix of my song "Lilac" (Сирень)despite of a big distance between USA and Latvia
He told much about his Oklahoma rancho , about his boats and handmade wooden bowls.
I finished a new song in memory of our Russian Bard-Vizbor J. and  I think Wyatt was like he:
"You came here to us and you were our Captain
And together with you your songs sounded as well"//
This is in Wyatt memory too...

When I first heard about our friend I determined that I would relearn guitar and harp, at least enough to be able to play some form of tribute (which I posted above).

However I continued to work on these, especially the guitar and have reached the standard of this tune.
http://www.kara-moon.com/forum/index.php?topic=6007.0
Judging by the responses it's not at all bad.

This is another part of Kevin's legacy - that his sad loss has kicked this fumble-fingered prevaricator into producing some decent music. I have every intention of continuing, and a little bit of our friend will be woven into every guitar line I play.

"Yo' ain't true gorn when folks is still finking 'bout yer."

Well .... it may not seem like it, but this week sees the anniversary of Wyatt's passing.

Whilst we were working together he often spoke of the desire to do some Irish songs. After going through quite a list we decided on one which we both knew and worked a few versions of it. We never actually finished any of them, always making this one of those projects which would get put aside as other ones came along.
Over the past year I have often pulled this one out with the aim of adding parts and finalising things ... but, as this final mix was done by Wyatt, could not bring myself to make any changes.

Here, in memory, is the traditional song 'Arthur McBride' in the last version of the Elderly Brothers.

Ride on Brother.   8)
