Title: "heartbleed" SSL encryption bug
Post by: Oren on April 20, 2014, 05:33:14 PM
Just upgraded my Bitcoin software to version v0.9.1.0-g026a939-beta. If you don't have it, get it - https://bitcoin.org/en/alert/2014-04-11-heartbleed - This version is impervious to the "heartbleed" SSL encryption bug that has all the banks and governments in a tizzy. Turns out that if you're running Linux, you were far less at risk from "heartbleed" than those of us who run Bitcoin on Windows.

A bad business for sure, and it really should never have happened. However, I think the take-home info was that the entire FOSS community were all over it like a swarm of locusts once they were aware of the problem. I don't see some commercial concerns having the same attitude.

Agreed - score a big one for the FOSS dudes.
In the software game, fumbling the ball is inevitable - it's how you recover that counts... ;D
