Came across this biography via the SmithsonianChannel on YT.Fascinating stuff...but the segment where they talk about light travel being plausible in the future,is a bit out of touch with reality,I think.
As I understand it(assuming that a transport could achieve such a speed),they overlooked a critical principal of physics,which is that no human could tolerate the g-force from the acceleration.
More specifically(if memory serves)...in order for a human to safely accelerate to the speed of light,the duration..in the gradual progress of the acceleration,would take longer than the human life span.

Regardless, the concept is fascinating.
Many futurists believe space travel will be accomplished through "out of body experience", where a person's consciousness will travel through time and space while their body rests comfortably.

I once read about a possible way to 'cheat' the system. It works on the assumption of multiple dimensions, not just the three we know about. As Einstein himself once said. You can have a limit of one, but if something can have more than one state, then it can have many.

If space is curved, as a lot of scientists think, then instead of walking round the curve to get from one place to another, if you can find the right different dimensions, and can find a way to use them, your wanted destination might just be one step and a twist away.

Sci-fi predicting the future is nothing new. I have a good friend who loves reading old Sci-fi books from the 40s-60s just to determine what has become a reality. There are a lot of examples of this.

Do you know what movie had the first "transporter" type of machine in it?
