Is there a problem with joining up? I just got a note from someone who wanted to create an account and he said:


Since my IQ is definitely below the required number, I have no idea.

Let me know what's happening and I can get back to him.

Just a supposition here.
We have had a lot of issues with potential spammers trying to infiltrate the site.
Until a few weeks back the mods were physically deleted dozens of false accounts each week. Recently that stopped for some unknown reason.
I think that Moon must have stepped in and changed the parameters for setting up an account. Maybe he has made it too strict.
He isn't around often enough to ask, I'm afraid.
Hopefully he will pick up on this message. I'll copy it over to the mods section.

If I can remember, I'll try to register as a 'new' member at work on Monday. This is an address that KM has never seen.

Well, that didn't work out so well.
I've come down with a nasty cold, and haven't stepped out of the house since Sunday morning :(

Well, having survived the cold sent by James via email, I'll be at work again on Monday. Thing is, there's now likely to be two weeks of overwork instead of just one :(

OK. I can confirm the the verification fails. I've sent an email to Mr Moon.

Which will explain why 'they' seem to have stopped.
Some time ago, when  we had a real bad attack of 'them', the parameters were changed to stop them. After a while things had to be relaxed a little to allow real prospective members through but it would look like Moon has reverted back to that regime.
Seems like a difficult balancing act.

I really was hoping that this problem was solved! Seems that it is not.

Moon hasn't set foot on K-M in over a year...that could be part of the problem. ::)

I'll try to create a new account from work on Monday, and see what happens.

Currently the validity check things it's 2016! I seem to have been able to register - and have just approved myself :)
I'll double check at work tomorrow, and let Mr Moon know the situation.

I think this is the same problem as reported when I started this thread. Oh, oh, Mr. Moon ... please fix!!!!

I emailed Mr Moon about the problem and he fixed it.

Hmm, thought I'd confirmed here. Anyway, yes it's fixed now.

It seems that with the 'doubtful' ones, if you approve but require activation the fakes don't bother.

I've a feeling a lot of these are just 'bots. The names are quite obviously recycled bits of names.

Hate to revive this old topic again ... but the same problem continues. Just got a note from a fellow who says:

  I have tried to register for the forum approx. 20 times but I keep
  getting the message that I am not answering the security questions
  correctly.

Could we fix this (again!)?

It was looking for the wrong year last time. Don't know what the probem is now - I can't get to another account to try myself till next Monday.

My guess would be "wrong year". I'd just put a note saying that the answer to the security question is yyyy ... but I don't know what year the forum thinks it is, it would not be a nice thing to, and it would probably change one minute after I did :)

I'm afraid that after prepping for Synthfest, then holiday, my work bench is piled high with 'urgent' jobs and I haven't had the chance to to try from work myself.

Had a look at this today - it's broken :(

Asks for details of an image, but no image is displayed.
Gives an alternative of audio, but no audio.

This was on firefox with nothing being blocked.

I'll play the devils advocate here.

There are only three main posters here, you, me and Thom.  An occasional poster is James and Bvdp occasionally making comments. It's not like the good ol' days when Roni was not only alive but the heart and soul of this site. A lot of people have just plain left.

Look at this site.  Many of the threads are so old they contain messages from friends who have died many years ago.  This makes me very sad.

So do you think that Moon is going to devote time to keep this place up and running?  I doubt it.

I have made friends here but even I am thinking about calling it a day.

Yes, I agree.  That is why I stated the Moon is not devoting the time to keep this site active.  Who knows how long that has been broken.  It is not the first time that was broken either.

I am still around most of the time.
I check in at least once a day and, in my role as a moderator, check if there any issues which need attention.
Unfortunately our powers are very limited. The only one who can address problems like this one is Moon.
I have to agree that without the means to register new members there is no hope of improving things.
This is really an issue that needs fixing. Earlier attempts have always opened the doors to the dreaded spammers so I don't know what the answer is.
I too get sad about it.
I do lots of music collaboration elsewhere and would love to do more here but our worlds have drifted apart somewhat.
From the active members currently here I don't seem to have much affinity with the styles of music to get involved with. I appreciate the talent, though ... always. You are a great bunch of musicians.

Like I say, I'm here most days.
If any of you have ideas that I can help with just let me know.
I won't move on until things do close down .......

I too will remain here as long as the site exists. I have seen other places fade down and appear to be virtually dead, only to suddenly recover. Of course that can't happen without members. Mr Moon is aware of the problem, and is (or will soon be) moving KM to another server with updated software, so hopefully this can be resolved at that time.

Personally, I'm less active than I was simply though having so many other things demanding my attention - including a long drawn-out refurbishment of my home (an 1880s terrace) along with the Yoshimi Soft-Synth which I am now very much the lead developer - and I certainly never wanted to be!

I still manage a trickle of ideas though, and place them here and on Soundcloud. I always post here first of course, and much prefer a small group of friends to a vast swathe of 'look at me' wannabies ;)
