Title: The Pen Has Found My Voice
Post by: offthewall on October 23, 2019, 09:01:37 PM
This song turned into something a little different to normal, for me.

The words came from a young lyricist called Mike Mantecon. He is only about 19 years old and he wrote this to celebrate 5 years of writing songs and getting folk like me to put them to music.

After I sat down with this and composed the music I started to play through and felt that the chorus seemed quite hymnal so I asked my friend Kris Pride to add some harmony vocals. To further develop that sound I also brought in another friend, Nigel Robinson, to add a church organ and some more harmonies.
This was what came out.

A new direction indeed! And what a winner!
This makes me think of some village gospel group, or one of those extended family get-togethers.

Absolutely first class. Please pass on my compliments to the others too.

Thanks for that, Will.
This was a strange one.
Like I said, it was only after I wrote the music then started to record that I got the hymnal feel in the chorus.
I got the team in with the music going right until the end then I thought I would drop it out for that final chorus.
As you know too well, the singing is not my best feature at all but the rest of the gang carried it so well.
Appreciate your kind words, mate.

Yes this is a new direction but it is one that thoroughly enjoyed.

That gospel chorus is perfect and your tin whistle right after it was brilliant, as was that a copella chorus at the end!

I agree with Will in that this is definitely first class all the way.
