We experiment here, every so often, with new styles.  This time we said 'what would happen if we tried to do jazz and rap together.  Having never rapped before it was an interesting and fun time.  We had some fun with it, and the result (so far) is below.  Hard to believe all three verses are done by 1:45.  Not sure what to do from there yet.

It's rap, so if you may get offended by a word or two, please keeping surfing on by. I don't want that aspect to become the focus of the thread..

It's a WMA file...may be that Musicmatch can't handle that?
I'll go make an mp3 version for those that can't read wma..

Yes, that's what the WMA is.  It played here just now..

Anyway- here's an mp3 version.
I went with wma because it didn't cause the glitches the mp3 version has on the bari sax parts..

A very happy feel here, this is not the 'serious grin' that is always present into rap/hip-hop production
Interesting stuff.
cheers

Now that's really different!
Cool stuff.
More to the rap side than jazz, but it opens up lots of possibilities.
Very inventive.
Rap-Jazz...........Razz!
Have you created another genre?

That's the purpose of our experiments.  Modern music is stuck in a bunch of genres (and sub-genres)  so we try to find something new and stimulating  to be creative.
If you've never noticed, most our Diatribe project is pretty unique stuff..
'make your sound your own'  and all that.
Thanks for listening, we had fun with it.

Bob,

The WMA file plays just fine here - Firefox browser, RealPlayer app.

I like the harmony ooohs, too.  Grin
The production has a homemade feel that is one of the better features of songs from the original rap (hip hop) "movement". Hip hop is, by definition, folk music (not the plastic crap you hear/see on MuchMusic), and the way you've put this together is faithful to the genre. The "jazz" component adds interest.

So, where does it go from here?

Oren.

That's a really good question Oren.
It's so unique that I don't know where to go from here.
I DO know that once you say 'so let's rock it'..the following section doesn't work.
I was thinking I would let that section play for about four bars, then have someone say "c'mon, man that ain't right"  and then have some kind of abrupt change.  But I haven't figured out what the abrupt change would be..
If the lyrics weren't done until 2:30 or so I would have no problem ending it there, but 1:45 is a bit short.

Just a thought...
may or may not make sense.
Since you've created a fusion of jazz & rap,
and since the main body has more of a rap feel than jazz, (to my ears)
why not wrap it, (front & back) with something that is a little more jazz than rap.
while incorporating some rap feel...but to a lesser degree.

Does that make any sense?
