I have never tried to learn it actually...do i need it?

I have thought about it, maybe it would have been a nice thing to learn, but i doubt i would use it that much.

Better to know how & never need it, than the opposite!

a long time ago I did

I'm not sure when I stopped needing to.
I've only used notation to compose, but in the last few years
I hardly bother with that process.

By the time I'vew read it through a  few times, and started to do some slow fingering I find I've also started to memorise it!

The attempt to read while playing pretty much stops there Tongue

I started years ago with classical guitar, and sometimes It took days and days to completely decode  (Cheesy) the whole piece. Now, I am.... not much better Smiley but I like it to know that, if I want, I can, with a notation dictionary of course (sometimes to see what does that  weird shape means etc. )) In real time ? It's a mystery to me.
