Wow..that sounds great to me!

Being a lowly conguero, I don't really
understand how to put a drum kit track
together, but you seem to have it very well in hand.

You are wringing some great stuff out of that new DAW.  Wink

Is this appropriate? I have a little Ardour/guitar/Hydrogen test that seems to go with this thread.

Kara,

More and more, the Linux computer is the one I power up, even for non-music tasks. Ardour is a very intense learning experience, but is now a functional multi-track recorder/mixer for me. Next, Rosegarden and ZynAddSubFX need some attention.
I spent some time with my own samples and JackBeat, but Hydrogen sounds so good  Grin
Rosy and Zyn will help me follow through with some pads and quality bass sounds.

Will,

Hydrogen allows nearly infinite control over tone and technique. My preference is a solid, characterful but inobtrusive, beat. And not really fond of cymbals for some reason. The program lets me play the drums the way I would if I actually had the dexterity and co-ordination. Schweet!

Being a late bloomer in many ways, I'm finding that at age 52 my guitar skills are just getting to the point where I can reliably express the tones and textures I hear in my head. (Thanks for noticing - very gratifying Cheesy)  The challenge now is to keep the hands limber and the body fit so I can go on playing and improving.

You made some big progress Oren.
Ardour is very powerfull, but not the easiest to learn. At the moment I master all the basics of it but still struggle with some more advanced concept. And some of them are a bit strange in implementation. Ex. Groups, when you put severall tracks in a group, changing the volume of one track changes the volume of a group. You would expect a separate group volume fader here.....
And I still didn't find out how busses and sends works exactly in Ardour  Roll Eyes
Rosegarden is a very powerfull all-in_one daw expecially for MIDI. Alltough it can load audio-tracks, the audio editing is a bit limited.
If you work with MIDI, I think best workflow is, optimize midi and render to audio or record straight in in Ardour, since both can be syncronized trough Jack.

I allso still have a lot to learn; LADSPA plugins (there to many of them  Grin ) , some day I'll have to concentrate on programming Zyn, since i'm so used to modular synthesizers my first reaction allways goes to the Alsamodular (when I don't use hardware).
And perhaps, one day, I'll understand what mastering is all about, and could use Jamin Smiley

So much things to do, so litle time....

Yes, organizing all the MIDI tricks in Rosegarden, then record them into Ardour, sounds like a good combination.

Zyn is simply the synth Will gets all those dreamy tones from - that's why I chose it. I'm sure if I'd heard AlsaModularSynth first, I would be using it instead. The modular synthesizer seems like such a versatile tool, why even bother to learn Zyn now?

JAMin looks very good, but from what I can tell, Audacity has nearly identical mastering capabilities (with those amazing LADSPA plug-ins), and I already use it on the final edit of a file. Employing it as my mastering tool (as I have with great results in the past Cheesy) saves me a step, and there will be no need to familiarize myself with yet another application.

What do you mean Diss, i don't understand the question...
Hydrogen is a sample based drum machine under Linux like Battery under Windows.
What exactly do you want ?
