Here's the question

With my m-audio firewire box that I purchased recently came Live4 lite, completly with serial key and even a special upgrade price to Live7 full version.

Since I'm obviously not going to use this on my Linux daw, I wonder if I have the right to give this away to somebody else ?
Now, if i have the right to do this and somebody here wants it, let me know.

As long as the product has not been regsiterd, you can give it to anybody, although I'm not sure the software will work without the hardware.

If it is registers:Ableton is very flexible with their licences; you can transfer the licence with a simple email.

P.S.: you could put this one in the prize-basket of the contest Wink

It's not registered , I've never installed it.
And it doesn't look like it is a special m-audio version, it's the standard live7 lite CD, with a separate license number paper, nowhere it is stated that it is a special version for m-audio.

With my EMU sound card I got WaveLab Lite and Cubasis 4. They were just standard lite duty proggies..nothing to do with interfacing with my particular sound card.

Moon's got a good idea, eh?

Yeah. I've got cubasis 3 and wavelab with my emu card, but I don't use this, since I use Sonar and Soundforge. If you're asking me if you can give this away... being light products, I guess you might, but I'm not sure since Steinberg is more strict in its license policy.

I'm not sure this is allowed - mostly these products are combined with hardware because of agreements between the software and the hardware manufacturer because both hope to gain something by the deal. By splitting up the products in question you are breaking up this combination and this may violate the license agreement. There should be something about this in the license agreements though that came with the products and alternatively, I really would recommend checking with the software manufacturer if it's ok by them. Some may be more flexible in it than others.

That is what I'm worried about... and to read the license you have to install the software, which I won't do (since i don't have a win daw anymore)   Roll Eyes

That software business is becomming pretty complicated.
I buy a product, with the product comes a free gift, but I can't give the gift to somebody else???
weird

I have a copy of Live2lite which I got with my soundcard a couple years ago. I had it installed on my old PC but didn't like it at all so didn't bother with it when I renewed the PC.
I just checked the disc. If you install it while holding down 'shift' to disable autorun, you should find the licence on a PDF which you can read without taking the installation any further. On my copy the licence reads:
4. No transfer: Licensee may not rent, lease, sublicense the materials, on a temporary
or permanent basis. Licensee may, however, transfer all his/her rights to use the
Materials to another person or entity,
provided that Licensee uninstalls the Software
from his/her computer, does not retain any backup copy of ther Software and transfers
this agreement with the Materials.

I hope this helps.
