...just looking for clues...

« on: August 02, 2008, 05:00:28 PM »

The folks at Kara-Moon awarded me with my first VSTi softsynth, their own signature version of "Shuniji" http://www.hgf-synthesizer.de/

To get the complete "immersion" experience, I went with a VSTi host he recommends: "VST Host" http://www.hermannseib.com/english/vsthost.htm

The sounds are big, bold, subtle, and complex. Outrageous!

If you don't hear much from me for a while, it's because I can't leave this thing alone.... wOO

OK, Wyatt,

VSTi sounds rendered to wave files and transferred to Ardour in my Linux computer.
Now to record vocals, guitar, and some percussion from Hydrogen.

It could take some time, though, because you guys deserve to hear this softsynth at its best... Grin

Cool..

..I have a similar procedure when I use Reason. I export the separate tracks as .wav files,
and then everything goes into Adobe Audition, where I am most used to working.

haha..I'd say this Hoser is the genuine article. Seriously, bro..ever since you started
tearing into Linux you are an inspiration.

I can attest that learning to 'synthisize' is no easy task, especially for those of us
of advancing years.   Smiley

I was trying to get Auditions sequencer to recognize my Yamaha keyboard yesterday..
the only way it would play was through the Shuniji synth..now that was a weird ride..
..ohh..but you should have heard the xylophone!

I am having a difficult time keeping all the sounds in my ear..it's kind of like what it would
be like trying to paint a painting with hundreds of tubes of colors, but all the tubes of
paint have no labels.

Thanks for sharing this Oren. I have been wondering what you are up to..intriguing start you
have here. I can't wait to hear your contest piece.

Wyatt,

Learning Linux and digital synthesis tends to put me in a frame of mind that is strangely reminiscent of learning the very early life-skills tasks: the bow knot in my shoelaces, counting to 100, riding a bicycle. All seemingly impossible challenges, until that one day when your repeated efforts are rewarded with a skill that will feel like second nature for the rest of your life. I think older people simply don't bother learning much any more because they feel it's not worth the effort for the short time they have left - not because their ability to learn is in any way decreased.

Pure digital synthesis, unlike attempts to duplicate existing instrument sounds, is a great freedom. But yes, those "hundreds of tubes of colors" tend to defy any known method of categorization. The two sounds I selected as Shuniji demonstrated its reperatoire remind me of the intense sun of a desert landscape, and the accompanying intense shadow.
What an amazing opportunity for artistic (or not-so-artistic Cheesy) expression!

Oren.

I think that will be most particularly true for people who continue to keep on learning.
