Hi folks,

After a surprising success reaching #6 in the KVR january contest with pedal-point theme....PedallingHome,  a few listeners asked for an extended version of the 'middle bit' of the tune.  If you need reminding the original had this story:
Father Reilly was cycling home in the dark after the dance was over. The rhythmic cadence of the pedals evoked a fleeting memory of the band playing back at the dancehall, giving him a feeling of well-being for organising yet another successful event and making his auld heart pump the adrenaline needed to get him home to his bed.
and is here:

The full version is meant to be a ‘tongue in cheek’ commentary!
The recording tries to emulate that ‘amateur band at the small church hall’ sound.
The story goes like this:
That feeling of satisfaction that the old priest has when he remembers the sound of the band that HE found. He booked them himself and when they turned up with all that equipment, even a Hammond organ (they must be good, he thought) and they managed to mix all the styles, from traditional reels to modern waltzes, he was well pleased.  They really deserved that applause. God bless them!!

here it is

Have fun

 Huh
54 reads and no comments??

Bad criticism is as welcome as good criticism, in my book......that's how we learn!

I like this new auditorium, by the way.

I'm not familiar with the short version from the contest, but I will say that I wish I had found this a couple of days ago as it would have been quite fitting for St. Patrick's Day.

I'm having to listen quite low right now so as not to disturb anyone, but I do think that it sounds lovely. I love Irish-tinged music.

The attempt at emulating the "amateur band in a church hall" is an intersting concept. What steps did you take in trying to emulate this?

Thanks for sharing the tune with us.  Smiley

Thanks for the comment, Van Greco.
The first version is linked in the original post, if you want to make the comparison.

To answer your question, the "amateur band in a church hall" style was an attempt at gaining that peculiar sound which, I think, we have all heard. A combination of 'not too good' performance and 'not often enough' rehearsal, coupled with too many 'trying to outdo each other' individuals!  It was good fun, from my point of view (being responsible for ALL the performers!), but the main ingredient to attain the sound was the use of various 'church hall' reverbs.
Thanks again for the interest.

I just can 'see' that Irish village trough the song, this is very well done.
I love that type of music. You play a nice pennywisle (that's not written as it should!)
Shouldn't use it in prog rock tough  Roll Eyes Grin
