Weird instrument this..invented in 1918 in Russia....2 oscillators..moving the right had closer to the vertical rod raises the pitch..moving the left hand farther from the volume loop increases the volume. The machine reacts differently to people with different body mass.

Theramins were the sound effect choice in the late 50s early 60s sci-fi movies, especially the grade B ones!

Always fascinated by theremins. Here's another clip which really shows how it can be a serious musical instrument.

Although a simple instrument to start with, I would guess it takes many hour's of practice to reach this guys level of skill and expression.
