Les nuages de Pie XII

Hitler and Pius XII : musical enquiries

A piece of music can tell many speachless stories, and even convoke History. Why not ?

Second World War showed us that horror created by humans beings had no limits.

However, while some people perpetuate atrocities, others, confined to a passive attitude, just let them happen relentlessly.
Hilter built up meticulously this horror and many people might have been able to oppose it, but their behaviour at that time still draws questions today.

So, did pope Pius XII leave the open field for the butchers or did he, working underground, save a lot of Jews ?
On the web, in the world, people struggle about it. Even catholics are very divided. This subject is harshly argued, in view of the probable canonization of this pope.
But there was no controversy over his predecessor Pius XI, who clearly denounced antisemitism which he considered "inadmissible, because, spiritually, we are all Semites".

I just wanted to ask this question to myself, throught these few music notes and this original movie soundscape.
Nothing more. But I had to make my own idea.

Get yourself one too.

Daniel,
I often wonder what atrocities could have been avoided if each and every pope down through the centuries had strictly forbidden  their church members from participating in the torture, killing, and destruction that is inherent in war. I imagine what might happen if all the other religious authorities took a similar stand. I ask myself how many conflicts could have been settled peacefully if conscientious individuals around the world (including German and Italian Christians in the second world war) chose not to take up arms.

Thankyou for an outstanding musical tapestry, and for addressing a concept which is too often ignored.
Oren.

This is a stunningly evocative work. I will be keeping this.
