...just looking for clues...

« on: August 13, 2014, 06:19:39 PM »

As plans for my first music video unfold, I found myself wondering which guitar (guitars?) to feature. Not being fond of promoting a specific brand - without a very good reason - my search for a new guitar from a Canadian manufacturer soon lost its momentum. So I've decided to build a guitar from parts salvaged from old discarded instruments.
Here are photos of the first few items...

The neck is from a Japanese Strat copy. It was bowed so critically that the previous owner thought it unsalvageable. Some water to moisten the wood, followed by a little heat and gravity - it now remains straight and true with only the internal truss rod to control the shape.

Great idea about the neck.  I have to remember that.

Did the weight on the neck affect the bolt on wood screws?  Or are they machine screws?

Neck/body attachment is wood screws, and appears to have survived unscathed.
I wasn't too concerned about the body - and basically used it as a "handle" for the neck treatment - because it's laminated mahogany; heavy as hell, and starting to de-laminate from age and abuse.
