In case anyone hasn't found it, Kara has posted a nice demo song in the download section for mma.

He can fill you in on the techniques he used, but it sounds darn nice to my ears.

I'm working on a new web site these days (more on this later) and will
have some of my own recordings on it then.

More songs == More Music == a better world.

This is not nearly as clean a recording as kara posted earlier, but what the heck.

I did a gig the other night at an art show. Just me, my sax and a keyboard loaded with MMA created tracks. The
recordings are pretty noisy with all the chatter going on, but do give a decent impression of what you can
do with MMA. Not one person at the show mentioned the automatic keyboard backgrounds at all ... and that
is probably a good thing. I'm sure if they'd sounded crappy there would have been comments Smiley

3 tracks are on my site at:  http://mellowood.ca/music/recordings/index.html

Enjoy!

That's why it is called 'live' recordings Smiley I actualy like those, nothing better then the guy with his instrument in an era where electronics dominate.
Where I am a bit surprised is that, as a  sax player, you take a keyboard with you on live gigs.
Did you ever think of rendering your background tracks to MP3 or just make an audio CD of your background tracks. It's a whole difference in weight to take with you Smiley

Great sound your sax has, I'm very used to the Yamaha Vl70m synth which does physical modulation of wind instruments. The one we have has been modified by
Patchman. They are specialists of Wind synthesis, and they replace the factory chip in it by what they call a turbo-chip which is basicaly a ROM chip with there propoer sounds.
They do a very good job, everytime i play together with my lady I'm impressed how good it is.
If people here wonder how it sounds, you can listen to the song 'ma vie' on our music page.

For people interested in the Vlm in his upgraded version, here is the website : http://www.patchmanmusic.com/

For Europeans this will be a problem because they don't deliver to Europe, and NO exceptions (I've called them). I've got mine thanks to another guy, allso a great sax player & american, Bob Hunt. You can listen to his music on http://electricmotorsales.net/bobhunt/index.html

I don't do a lot of gigs, so the hauling tends to get forgotten Smiley I guess I figure that having a neat-o-looking keyboard on the stage
somehow looks a bit better ...  and thre is the possibility that I need to play a "happy birthday" song (or whatever) on the keyboard for someone ... but, for the most part, that is probably a dumb issue. I think that the next time I might record the tracks to
CD and use a small player. Or, perhaps just an mp3 player.

The only pain is that I have to record the stuff off the keyboard in real time. I have used Timidity on the computer to convert
midi -> wav and they sound pretty cheezy. Is there a good sounding alternative which runs under Linux?

Hi Bob,

If you ever plan to visit Europe, please let me know. Me or Kara will certainly invite you to our modest studio to do some recordings. I'me sure we can make a recording without the background-noise  Wink

Okay, it is a date Smiley Don't hold your breath waiting for me to show up though. I'm getting to the point where I find travelling more of a pain than a joy. I must be getting old or something Smiley

But,  really, do we want really nice recordings? I really admit that there is way too much chatter and background noise on the samples I put on the web site. But, for my own listening I really do prefer "live" recordings over those done in a studio. I think the occasional cough, tinkle of a glass and real appaluse add to the overall sound. And, we are assured that we are listening to a musician and not something maniplulated in a studio.

I'm probably in a very small minority here ... most people like the clean studio recordings ... or is that only 'cause they don't know better ... or, shame on me for even thinking this, is it 'cause some "musicians" really need the help they get in a studio.

Ahh, the joys of music. Room for every mainstream and oddball taste! So many different choices one can make!

Well Bob, You're right! You don't need perfect recordings. Live recordings are great, but than the primary goal of the audience should be listening to the music and than making ambient noise, not the other way around. I think you know what I mean...

But hey, we got great pups in Europe too, so who knows  Wink

yes you are right Moon but then again, i have the experience that in live gigs, quality of sound doesn't matter at all.
As long as people reconize something on which they can dance they are satisfied...
and that's not even talkinf about piano bars, the worst there is ! Nobody listens to what you're playing.
