Title: refine ambient/dance music comments welcome!!!
Post by: SampleScience on April 13, 2008, 09:50:56 PM
OK, here's a track I've made this morning using FL Studio, a couple of (modified) CM NRG samples, Oatmeal & the good old Plugsound Free. My goal was to make something that sounded great & "professional". I've used a lot of EQing & used my ear as much as possible without trying to make things look beautiful on the screen (it's one of my problems lol). Your input would be greatly appreciated & of course constructive comments are welcome, be it positive or negative, I'm building something here . So here is the download:

Hope you'll like it!

S.S.,

Interesting dark mood created here..seductive,snappy drum track & synth lead-would like to hear some variation such as some backround chord progressions to round it out though.

Ultimately a great start...nice going. O0

Hi Samplescience

First a bit advice about the forum here  ;D
A lot of the members here don't like to go to another to listen to music that you post here. Therefore we added in the forum the possibility to direct upload your song together with your post.
When you make a post just click additional options and attach your song directly to your post  8)

Now about the song.
There's a good groove in the song thanks to the nice bass groove that works nicely together with the drums.
Allso a nice buildup, with the arpegiator comming in.
I don't know if it needs more variation like Elwoodblues said ? To me it sounds allready as it is since there elements comming in and out, and it it is typical to that type of music that there isn't a lot of chord progression. Allso the backline synth puts a nice frame in place.
Perhaps it could benefit from an end that is more structured, a bit more build off perhaps. Or another idea, use your actual as a bridge, after the bridge repeat a chorus and the build off. Just some ideas 8)

I like the song

k

I listenned to your advice & uploaded the songs. :)

Thanks for the comments & listtening!

What I have in mind for this track after a couple of listenning is: more variation between the different parts, filter works (filter things in & out with different lfo "locked" on a predetermined number of bars, usually gives good results!), trying to come up with a more gracefull end! lol

cheers

Crisp production, very detailed and cohesive....outstanding bass sound.

If the bass notes were varied somewhat, it would add interest and supply a more dynamic feel.

Great sound  8)

The acoustic bass pattern is a re-arrange Andrew Duke (http://andrew-duke.com/) bass loop from a Computer Music cover DVD by the way. All the drums samples are from CM as well, for 20$ it's well worth the money!  ;D

Hi Samplescience
Nice semi-ambient thing, it has a strong rhythmic element.
I think you reach your goal of having an high sound quality.
All these natural samples make this track sound like the 'real' house music, done with 'real' instruments as it should be
Great mix ! this is an excellent production

Cheers
