Title: MMA is in Debian!
Post by: bvdp on October 22, 2015, 05:31:10 PM
Here is a note I just got from Debian maintainer Anthony Fok:

Quote
Good news!  MMA 15.09 was accepted into Debian yesterday.
It is now in the Debian sid (unstable) repository:

    https://packages.debian.org/sid/mma
    https://packages.qa.debian.org/m/mma.html
    https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/mma

It will enter Debian testing about 5 days from now.

So yes, "sudo apt-get install mma" now works for Debian sid
users like me.  :-)

Meanwhile, Ubuntu will automatically import MMA into the future 16.04 LTS
(Xenial Xerus) before FeatureFreeze and DebianImportFreeze that
would likely happen around February 2016.

This is really great news. It'll make it much easier for Debian (including Ubuntu) users to access MMA. More users should generate more activity and more and better library files.

I will continue to have a near-identical deb package on my site as well as binary tarball.

Big tip of the hat goes to Anthony!

Excellent news, and a feather in your cap. debian are quite fussy about the quality of programs they include.
