Who? Me?

Quite some time ago I posted 'In Search Of The Lost Tribes', and recently made the mistake of playing it again from the original files. So it wasn't long before I started fiddling about Roll Eyes

I think I've improved it, but would like opinions. This is not 'fixed' yet so I'll only post up an mp3.

For comparison, the original is here

Edit:
Changed to a slightly older version - especially as I will eventually over-write the one on my own site - Doh!

If you have a poem, I have a tune, and we exchange these, we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.

Version 2 has a more "organic" sound and a polished production. Well worth your effort, Mr. G. Afro

I like the original best, the way it was...although I could see the logic in adding a pan flute sound, but I'm really stuck on the original synth sound.
I think sometimes that a theme can be expressed adequately through composition, without having to pick a specific ethnic sound.

Well, back in harness again!

I'm sorry you didn't like the new version so much. I changed to the pan flutes in the middle section, not specifically for any ethic reasons, but to add greater texture. It also enabled me to add the quiet choir without it being drowned out. The synth sound although one of my favorites, tends to have a very wide spectrum!

Since then I've made further changes (posted here) which I hope give additional depth to the whole piece.

Very beautiful and peaceful piece  Cool
Would be very interesting to have a 'classical' orchestral version.
Superb!!

The increased variety of sounds is an improvement, and the new arrangement works
The difficulty here for fellow producers/songwriters commenting on your tweaks lies in the fact that the original was so good... Re-working an obvious winner is always a harrowing procedure. Wink

Thanks a lot Mag, and Oren that's one hell of a compliment you're paying me Embarrassed

Now I must apologise to everyone... cos I've done it again.

This time the only real change I've made is simply to move it up from Em to Gm, but it seems to make a dramatic difference, so which version do people think is best, 4 or 5?

P.S.
I promise you I'll leave it alone after this.

Thanks guys.
This is proving to be very interesting. I'm getting quite different opinions from various different places and people. I can't recall such a 'split' with any of my previous compositions. I've no idea what that means - if anything.

Still, I've had enough of it now and I suspect you all have as well  Tongue

I believe the reason you are seeing such a “split” is due to the fact all of your versions are winners so people are just picking their personal choices!

Although it is extremely hard to pick the best one my vote goes to version 4.  For me the blend is much smoother, i.e. best choice of soundscapes.
