Perhaps any serious artist would not not take this piece of gear seriously.But then again,anything that is geared towards an i-Phone,is going to be popular....it's all about marketing.

Maybe this contraption is designed to make amateurs feel like a serious artist.  ;D

I've been using an iPad for a few months now, which has the same basic OS as the latest iPhone and iPod touch, albeit with of course a much larger screen.

Some of the apps on there are simply amazing. I'm talking full-blown sequencers and synths that a few years ago we couldn't even run on our pc's. On top of that, lots of apps make interesting use of the multi touch screen to allow you to play notes in a different style than you would on a keyboard. Jordan Rudess of Dream Theatre is a big promoter of these apps and even developed his own app. My own experience is that it sounds stunningly good for such a device and the ease of use and flexibility more than makes up for the fact that it isn't a big laptop or desktop with a pro audio interface attached to it.

In fact, I do plan to use my iPad at our next gig.

I'll certainly do so... Maybe it's also a good idea to create a few short demo movies of my favourite apps. Not that YouTube isn't full of these, but I can perhaps give my 87PM-twist to them... ;)

Now 'That' would be a good idea !

I guess I've been super-snobbish towards i-Pad gear,as I assumed that since Rony is mainly a live performer,he would be very knowledgeable with portable gear & be up on all the latest products.
My prejudice also stems from the excessive marketing of Apple products & all of the hype of Mac computers.MacIntosh computers were always put on a pedestal,being that they are supposedly the ideal systems for graphic art & video production.

Macs are insanely popular for audio production as well,but I could never justify the enormous cost of of them and they seem to have their share of tech-issues as well.

Ah, in my experience there's no way you can out-snob some Mac users... ;D

Having seen a couple of Mac products now (my new Live laptop is a Macbook Pro and of course the iPad) I think I am not too far from the truth when I say this:

• Macs are better - generally - than pc's. The OS feels more stable, efficient responsive and generally just nice to use. It's a subtle thing sometimes, but it is there when you're using Macs. This is also a very logical thing when you consider Apples control over both hard- and software.
• While they are better they are not as many times better as pc's as the price difference would suggest. If you're careful about setting up your pc, you can get much more power for less money by going pc.
• Apple as a company is particular annoying, feeling like a benevolent dictator who determines for you what you'd like to have, how it should function and why you should like it. Only problem is - generally they're spot on. :D

To be honest, I'd say that if someone told you that only one platform works then that person is either showing his incompetence or his ignorance of the other platforms. It's like discussing which sequencer is best or which synth sounds best. It all works and has a place, but the optimal solution depends on what you'd want to invest in quality and how much in performance.

Trust the sound. Not the speakers and everything before that. ;D

Agreed. A machine with the same hardware combinations as a modern Apple computer will be an excellent  selection for Unix, Windows, and Linux operating systems.
MacIntosh operating systems are superior to MS Windows because they are based on the Unix system. Windows is still built on the ancient MSDOS -  with just layer upon layer of extra software applied to provide added performance.

To be precise, the MAC OS is based on BSD unix :)

I'd also like to add that there are plenty of specialist companies providing custom-built pc's for daw duties that have been thoroughly tested on both hardware and software level and as far as I know these are rock-solid. I guess the main thing to remember is that when you're doing such a critical thing as live daw use then there's no escape from making sure that both the hardware and software of it are tested well.

Agreed. This is what makes your Macbook Pro such a good choice for live work - all the "guesswork" has been removed.
Many Linux users are equally familiar with their hardware and software. Compared to a Macbook, it just requires more research, and less money... ;D

Agree with all of this, however the more complex something becomes the more Murphy takes interest in it :(

Sometimes the bugger just wants to mess with people's heads, so gives two people with apparently identical setups, totally different experiences :(
