Well, aside from an ad that reaches a level of cringeworthiness that surpasses everything I saw before, the product itself does seem to have a very interesting concept, apparently analysing a monophonic melody to come up with matching chords. The sounds seem very midi-like though. Still, an interesting toy - I'm not sure though what demographic it's supposed to appeal to. I would imagine this to appeal to 6-12 year olds but the commercial seems to go for the yuppie demographic as well which seems kind of weird.

Also: four minutes that were extraordinarily hard to sit through.

YEEEEUUUUKKK

Things like this should have a government health warning.

Surely even Joe Sixpack isn't dumb enough to not have his intelligence insulted by this bit of cack.

Heh, I wouldn't even say that this software is crap as such. The commercial certainly is and though the software certainly wouldn't appeal to professional users (or most music lovers) there seems to be interesting stuff in it and it might even be entertaining in the way that singstar software is entertaining.

Theoretically,I could pound down a 64 oz bottle of prune juice & fart into a microphone using this software & this program will create an entire song around it?

That's the only real use I would have for the software....& that would actually be fun & useful as an experiment. Evil

Damn...& I thought Band In A Box was bad enough...what is the world coming to? Undecided

Cheesy

Some of the ingredients for the program were indeed supplied by PG Music, the makers of Band-in-a-Box, here in Victoria. More style selections will be available from PG Music, and Garritan will supply optional instrument sounds if the customer want's to upgrade the sound of their production. Chords can also be entered and modified after the initial composition is created, so the "musician" can build on the original idea.

Auto-accompaniment software was pioneered by the folks who eventually created "Guitar Hero", originally as a medium of expression for autistic people.

Not my cup of tea, but it's going to be big, very big.... Cry

Shocked what a surprise I thought PG was an european based company.
I saw a couple of youtube demo videos and I think it can be used as a children educational game or a tool to compose musical sketches.
Just my 2 cents...

Cheers

L.R. hit the nail on the head when he said this is a tool.  It is just another tool like BiaB, loops, DAWs, Rhythm sections-both drum machines and synth rhythm sections and so on and so forth.  You can either use it or not.

If, and that’s a big if, it is sophisticated enough to suggest alternate chord progressions to a lead line than it may be useful to me.

Even if it is just a kid’s thing it can be an important tool.  If a few kids like it enough they may be motivated to learn more about music, and that is a very good thing. I don’t know about where you live but over here in upper western New York State high schools are dropping the arts and music classes to save money. Even the college near our town has eliminated the music department. What a shame!

For the record that was the worst commercial I have ever seen!
