There was no way I could comfortably adjust to the geometry of that Epiphone SG - every time I instinctively grabbed for the next chord or went to execute some tricky picking-hand maneuver, it all went to hell. I used to play Gibsons, and now I remember why I switched to Stratocaster-style guitars... Chris Pearson, who built my white replica "Fender Custom-Shop Strat" just finished his replica of Eddie Van Halen's first custom-built guitar, the black and white "frankenstrat" - the one he used on Van Halen's first tour and on their first album. So, I bought it from him... what a friggin' guitar! ...and a gift from a guitar-player friend...

I don't particularly care for the decor, but as someone who has had tough times trying to nail down keyboards with good action...I have had to overlook certain color schemes to get the playability I needed. To each his own and if you like the color scheme, then that's one helluva a score! As for adhering to the philosophy of "you can't have too many keyboards"...well... keyboards are too bulky for my apartment and my wallet is never bulky enough to afford a growing collection of such. Cool ax t-shirt! -Thom

Mario, We are all kids at heart, and at our age, we can afford the toys our parents never could. Here's to our second childhood! Thom, To me, that paint job represents the limitless creativity that characterizes Eddie's early years as a performing guitarist. The actual design doesn't do much for me artistically, however. Just a slice of classic "shred" history, you understand...

Yes, yes. This is all very well, but what does it sound like? This remains to be seen... I've just wired it (the builder does not do electronics), and it is time to put the finishing touches on the set-up. A friend calls this process " Orenating" the guitar...

The guitar is built for overdriven tube amps and lotsa slashing, but I laid down some country-style music to give you an idea how it sounds "clean". Two tracks, no editing...

Will, There's still a lot to do getting the set-up just right, but it has to be accomplished in increments as the guitar responds to each new adjustment. In spite of the impression that an electric guitar is an inanimate "technical" tool for making music, they are, indeed, very alive and responsive to the player's touch, and changing in character as the wood and electronic components "season" with age. This gentleman, from Italy, is perhaps the foremost expert on how to fine-tune your Fender-type guitar: http://www.youtube.com/user/FruduaTv _________________________________________________ Azell, Merci bien - nous faisons tous de notre mieux... __________________________________________________ Mario, Thankyou...
