It's a cover of fourth rendez-vous. Enjoy and as usual, let me know what you think of it!
Title: Re: Jean Michel speaks up Post by: kara on March 27, 2008, 07:52:43 AM Interesting cover Marc, well done 8)
If you see what gear JMJ uses, it's amazing how you managed to do this with one Vsti 8) k Title: Re: Jean Michel speaks up Post by: Marc JX8P on March 27, 2008, 08:59:23 AM Well, the delay lama was also involved; it's the vocal sounds. But I put it through plenty of effects. :)

I love to see a celebrity take a stand on important issues. Count me as a new Jarre fan. Oren. I'm not exactly what you call a new JMJ fan :D, but I agree with you Oren, it is important to hear known musicians say things like that. k Title: Re: Jean Michel speaks up Post by: Moon on March 27, 2008, 07:15:59 PM Great, now I can use my collection of JMJ midi files ! I must admit I like JMJ more now I've seen this.
Anyway: why not put together a kind of ode to JMJ during our live gig ! We can put this on video and post it on youtube. Who knows, JMJ will have a surprise for us ! :; Moon P.S.: Marc, great impression. Care to do this live ? ;) Title: Re: Jean Michel speaks up Post by: Marc JX8P on March 27, 2008, 07:28:54 PM Brilliant idea! Pieces like RV4 and Equinoxe 4 and 5 are among the few things that I can (mostly) play right away and Jarre's stuff is also easy to improvise on. I'm all for it!

Title: Re: Jean Michel speaks up Post by: Moon on March 27, 2008, 07:31:15 PM Count me in for this !!! Wouldn't want to miss this one. :-

I think it's much fun to play it together :D Title: Re: Jean Michel speaks up Post by: Laguna Rising on March 29, 2008, 11:00:20 AM Thanks for the link Kara
and thanks for the cover Marc. Nice rendition, I like it, very faithful to the original mood. Cheers Title: Re: Jean Michel speaks up Post by: elwoodblues1969 on March 30, 2008, 01:12:57 PM Marc,
A friend long ago introduced me to Jarre's music..something like 20 years ago,so I do not remeber what I had heard exactly, but your rendition has a very distinct retro quality-which is quite impressive! O0 BTW,I too, enjoyed the video of Jarre speaking out..a very sweet man.Now there is no excuse left for me to not seek out & discover more of his works. :) Cheers, Thom Title: Re: Jean Michel speaks up Post by: folderol on March 30, 2008, 09:19:14 PM Very cool! :; To celebrate this I'm uploading a track I made years ago with my first VSTi: the EMAGIC EXSP24 sampler. Well I had some trepidation about listening to this as I am rather a JMJ fan, but I have to say you've done very well with it.Title: Re: Jean Michel speaks up Post by: Marc JX8P on March 31, 2008, 08:21:12 AM Thanks guys, glad you like the cover so much! Some of the sounds that I got with the EXSP sounded so much that I just had to try that track (most notably the pulse-synth backing and the synced lead synth). The rest was more difficult - such as getting to sound the delay lama like those cool incidental sound effects that Jarre uses - but I'm very happy with how it turned out, too. I'm quite obsessive on sounds and overall sound, so I was delighted to be able to finally with a soft synth get close to Jarre's sound.

That is really pretty. Good going, man! Thanks for sharing that. Wyatt Title: Re: Jean Michel speaks up Post by: Marc JX8P on April 03, 2008, 09:16:41 AM Thank you! That reminds me of my alter ego John Mitchell Charred - on KvR we once had to submit a music contest entry anonymously in the style of someone whose music we liked (mp3 attached). Hmmm... I might just do a Jarre impersonation with my webcam for my next podcast!
I'm going to need a big wig though for that... :-\ Title: Re: Jean Michel speaks up Post by: Wyatt on April 03, 2008, 02:52:06 PM Thank you!
