Google search is propably one of the best on the net, but it is bloated with publicity adds  Roll Eyes

If you are like me and you hate adds, you could use this one http://clusty.com

It has good search result and a nice structured way of presenting his results.

Give it a try

Good idea!

Until recently, I used alltheweb.com, but they were purchased by Yahoo.

Kara,

I checked out the Clusty search and it did produce some interesting results that I never encountered before, but I still got inundated with iPod ads & then I got invaded by a video advertisement & the add would not even let me shut down my computer,so I had to turn it off manually-just to get rid of the add.

Despite the ads though,it is a good alternative in some aspects, but ultimately there is no getting around online ads,as obviously, the funding for search companies has to come from somewhere.
The only ads that really bother me,are the ads that intrude onto this forum, but I guess one cannot put a halt to everything that's out there.

Like I had said, this search engine does produce some unique results,so it's definately useful.
I will be using Clusty in the future & thanks for posting the info. Cool

Did you get ads on clusty.com Huh I've never seen one add on that site ? Or was it adds on the site that you clicked on ? That's not the fault of clusty of course.

Now that interesting, nobody ever made a remark on the adds here. I actually think most didn't even notice them.
SO, a general question to all, does the ads here bother you

I wouldn't have a problem taking them away....

Kara,

As far as the adds on this forum goes,I was referring to the people that violate the privacy of this site by posting drug & *** ads.Ads such as porn & Viagra pill ads is what bothers me,as I am sure it bothers everyone else here.

It's not that big of a deal,as the staff of this site is reasonably prompt at deleting such crap, but it's the whole principle of the thing, that's all.

Advertisers who do not respect other people's privacy and intrude into everyone's lives, infecting people's pc's with this crap-really gets under my skin, because there is no way to stop it & there is never any legal recourse towards these intruders,as
they will always remain anonymous & get away with it because they are cloaked behind cyberspace.

As far as the Clusty thing goes,it's the results that I click on that gives me the ads.
For me personally, the ads on the home page of search engine site never really bothered me.

Yes I understand and we do our best to limit it to a minimum.
As you know we have a challenge-response system to register to the forum combined with your mail address. This limits access and doesn't allow bots to register.

Our moderators, as myself & Moon do our best to delete spam messages as soon as possible.
We all do our best to keep this forum as clean as possible, but you have to be aware that a forum is a 24/24 hours service. So in an ideal world we would have people of different time zones that monitor the forum 24/24
We allreadu have some excelent mod's and we are trying to extent our team.
But since we realy expect from our mod's that they do there job, it is not easy to find people thet have the will and the time to invest there time.

Although you probably don't get a lot of thanks. There are a lot of people who really appreciate the time and effort you put into this.

I'm just one for them!

The only ads that annoy me are the flashing ones. The others I simply don't see. After all this time my brain as 'tuned' them out. I could use the ad-blocker extension of firefox but it's not important enough to bother.
