Music is my middle name

Finally our first complete song done with the new LINUX DAW.

First something about the style; it's what we call here a soft-rap song. This is a style that's very popular in France at the moment and one of the leaders of the style is a guy called MC SOLAAR. As you can hear it's basicly a rap on top of a hip-hip groove. The biggest difference with american rap is that it is softer and sweeter (less aggresive).

Looking forward to your comments  wOO

Kara,

Rap is something I am not generally into,as I am very picky about it,but this is a very well done play on the theme-as it is very unique, creative and a very nice production from a technical standpoint. Smiley

Cheers,

Pretty much agree with Thom here.

What was the breakdown of the 'instruments' / effects you used. It sounds very clean.

P.S.
I make as many spelling mistakes as anyone else, but you really got me with this. I was scratching my head trying to work out what style 'cong' was Smiley

I think this style of music has a special name, it's not just "rap"...

Even if this isn't my style, I enjoyed listening ! Well done !

P.S.: Kara, how do YOU call this style ?

Hi kara,

wow! Ca pulse !  Afro
Great surprise. I really liked a lot the mood of it.
It's not that soft in fact  Grin There is a 'urgent' feel, takes you and didnt leave you.
Orchestration and arrangement are top.
I think that the drums are too 'scratchy' and bluried the vocal. And the (superb!) clavinet also fight with the drums as they are in the same range of 'sounding'. The vocal could benefit of eq and comp maybe.
Anyway, this is very enjoyable, thanks to share!!

bye

Kara,

Very interesting piece. Congratulations on your first effort with your
new setup.

This is powerful to me..lots of good drive here..it grabs ahold of you by the
collar and takes you right along..both the music and the vox.

I would like to hear the vocals a little more prominent/clear; they are very
strong and centrally important here, imo.

Excellent song.

Thanks for all your comments  wOO
I do agree that Azells voice is not perfect in the song at the moment.
I learned with this song that it is very difficult to mix a spoken voice in a busy song, a spoken voice has allmost no dynamics and no harmonies where you can play with.

I'll work on that today and search for a better solution.

@Will, i'll post a track & fx list once I've found a solution

Not really my cup of tea, although I'm used to learn something from every kind of music (or at least to try)
Anyway I must say this song works well for me, the rhythmics are OK, bass, drums, percs are flawless.
There's the right touch in orchestration for joining the vocals with the basics rhythm.
Good luck for your LINUX future projects  Wink

I realised that I made a couple of big mistakes in the first mix  Roll Eyes
As I allready explained, it was a big mistake to try to fit the voice into mix and not working the other way around...
But I allso forgot that I have a new audio interface with my linux daw, which doen't sound the same as the old one.

First thing I did this morning was recalibrating my audio output with some reference audio material I have and know exactly how it should sound.

Having done that, I've redone the whole mix, but this time working around the voice.
And here is the result  Grin

Now, I would appreciate a lot, if you all could have a relisten and give your opinions on the new mix. It's very different from the first one.

This mix I like so much better!!

I was really wanting the voice to be more present and this really works for me.

Vocal track is beautiful..great song.
