whalequest.mp3

Here's mine. I'm not going to talk too much about the contrasts, but rather post some interesting things that aren't really relevant to the contest.

The synth is a gameboy emu put through FM and pitch-shifting which gives a nice character to the crackles. You won't hear any sonar. I was afraid this was going to be a problem but I was able to excise it without altering the character of the whale sounds. I guess that's about it.

A good thing I'll say about this theme is that I wouldn't have otherwise done this. Usually if I get an idea like "whale sounds" I just think a) that'll come out worse than I imagine and b) mr. scruff has it covered. But I have to admit to feeling a bit empowered with the way this turned out. (Even if the drums and bass are meh.)

I find it pretty cool.
It almost sounds guitar-like in an AdrianBelew sort of way.  A little more complex drum pattern would have really set it off for me.
I liked the lo-fi feel the crackling gave it.

Yep i get the Adrian Below vibe too from this. Great bassline, simple, but effective. This had a sort of experimental IDM feel to it. Liked it.  Smiley
