Title: Antartica
Post by: folderol on August 30, 2007, 10:32:51 PM
Well I'm still officially on holiday, so today has been a total music day. I've done nothing else except eat and ...

I originally composed this tune in 1993. Recently I lost most of the 'build' files, so today, with just a partial MIDI file and listening to the ogg recording, I recreated it, and took the opportunity to improve it.

It is now 70% ZynAddSubFX, 20% SY35 & 10% Sound Canvas :)

I hope you enjoy it, and of course comments are welcome.

Will,

Quite an emotional bit of work! Tugs at the subconscious in a clandestine way.

Evokes thoughts of some ethereal penguin seance....

Ever been to an Alice Cooper concert?

Oren.

What a great mood that this song evokes from the first seconds.
It allso builds nicely up and keeps on putting in variations.

I love how you play with variations on a theme, it stays interesting trough the whole song.

At some spots I had the impressions that the mix was a bit harsh, perhaps a litle to much of high freq's in there. Could be my age too, getting to sensitive for upper freq tones ???

Anyway, lovely song

k

Folderol,

Enticing,seductive sounds & a progressively interesting array of arrangements.
This piece would be ideal for either a movie or a video game. 8)

Very pieceful & relaxing..eloquently done.

Elwood

Thanks a lot for your comments guys. This is a tune I've greatly enjoyed developing over the years - yes I do mean years!

->Oren
I've actually been to very few live concerts. For many years I lived a long way from any significant venues, and money was tight :(

I think I know the areas you're thinking of and have had some concern about it myself, but I really don't know how to deal with it. I would guess you mean the sections starting at 1:00 and 3:00. The instrument is a complex one from Zyn. I call it multi-synth, It actually uses additive, subtractive & pad all at the same time. These effects, along with their filters, have a high degree of randomness, which means they can occasionally all peak together, but never at exactly the same time or the same frequency each time I make a fresh recording :(

-> Elwood
I would SO like to have this in a movie <sigh>

Hi Folderol

This is an atmosphere based track, and it's rather good
Production is fine, and there are enough variations to mantain it interesting througout the whole length
This is not the 1st time I listen to the ZynAddSubFX synth but I'm impressed by its sound quality.
Probably that's not easy to program this kind of complete sounds but the result is interesting

Cheers

Thanks again.

Zyn is like a good woman. Very demanding, but sure gives a lot back ;D
