Forgive my ignorance & stupidity, but I will never fully understand computers as you all do.I finally received my license key to upgrade my new DAW to the full version, but I cannot get the key installed properly. In the e-mail which contained the license key, there was a basic instruction for me to copy the key into my EnergyXT folder-which seemed simple enough, but I could not get it to work. This is my first audio DAW,so I am completely lost and if it wasn't for Kara helping me out with the Lame code for Audacity,I would have never figured it out myself. I need detailed, step by step instructions and even though no one on this forum has energyXT...well,I figured that there are some basic principles of installation to follow and I thought perhaps that someone could point my dumb ass in the right direction.
I've requested help on the KVR forum and I've also e-mailed EnergyXT tech support,so I am hoping to resolve this in any way possible-asap. I've had my new computer set up for almost a week now & I can't use it...I am in hell! Any input at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Thom

First a question, how was that license key delivered by mail ? As an attachement to the mail ? Or as text IN the mail I have no idea what a license key of Energyxt looks like

Yes,it is an attachment...I first made the mistake of saving it,without a specific destination,so I then chose "open with" and sent it to my EnergyXT folder, but it's not there. If I had an extra $100 I would just buy the damn DVD ROM disc, because this is getting ridiculous.

ok the command 'open with' doesn't send it to your XT folder
go to the folder where you saved it, select the keyfile with the mouse (single click) then do CTRL-C now go to the Ext folder and do CTRL-V
if you don't know where you save it, it should stil be as there an attachement to the mail you got. same principe select the attachement and do CTRL-C (or right-click on the atachement and select 'Copy' then go to the ext folder and do CTRL-v or right click and choose 'Paste'

Kara,
I tried opying & pasting several times, but it did not work, but don't I need to open the file first?Windows 7 cannot read the file,so I cannot open it.Do I need to download Adobe,or something?

it's normal that windows 7 can't read the file, it's a kayfile from ext, so ext is the only program that can read that file.
ok let's try something else
1. open the windows explorer and go to the folder where you stored the key file 2. open a second windows explorer and go the folder where ext is installed
now in the first explorer window click on the keyfile and DON'T release your mouse button, now drag the file over to the second explorer window i.e. the one with ext
does that work ?

FWIW – I have had several programs where copying and pasting the key did not work. I had to manually type in the key. Have you tried this?
One other question, are you sure this program is Win 7 compatible? I don't know, just asking.

Kara,
As I had mentioned in my last post on the KVR forum,Windows 7 does not have me down as the adminisrator,so I need to sort that out and once I do,I think I will be sorted out.
Thanks very much for all of your help! -Thom

... I just have to make myself the "administrator" of my own PC...but I thought I was already the captain of my computer!
Well to be honest this doesn't make any sense. You where able to install Ext which means that you don't need administrator rights in that folder ! And also, you should know that giving yourself administrator rights is a very bad idea. When you have admin rights, all software that you use has admin right on your pc, including viruses, malware, trojan horses,... now imagine what that can do to your PC ! k

Kara,
I am only doing what a fellow Windows 7 user-who owns the EnergyXT,told me to do,as that seemed like the most logical thing.I'm sorry that your advice did not take precedence over everyone else's...I am open to everyone's advice, but I mistakenly thought that the guy on the KVR forum had my solution to the problem. This particular platform is very new to me & I am not sure what direction to go in.Sorry to have bothered you.

Kara,
I tried your drag & drop method, but it did not work....this is what happened; I first received a message saying that the file was already there and I was given 2 options....replace file & delete previous one, copy it and keep both files. No matter what I tried,I always get blocked from doing this, with a message saying; "you'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to folder"
