Title: music you're currently listenning to?
Post by: SampleScience on April 08, 2006, 12:52:13 AM
Here's what I've bought today:

Placebo - Meds
Didn't had the time to listen to it but I have all their previous albums & I'm sure I will love this one!

Indochine - Alice & June
A band from France, close to Placebo & Depeche Mode in style, this is their latest album.

Prodigy - Voodoo People Pendulum Remix
An excellent remix of voodoo people, I don't know if it's official but I've bought here in a commercial mainstream store (Archambault).

Depeche Mode - A Broken Frame
Just to complete my collection  ;D

So you, what are you listenning these days?

I'm 23.

I've been brainwashed by Prince, Depeche Mode, INXS, Peter Gabriel & Phil Collins in the eighties because that was the music my mother was listenning at the time. I'm now a hardcore Depeche Mode fan! By the way their latest album is excellent (even if you're not a fan).

cheers

Didn't a member of Depeche Mode make a song only out of percussive hits on metal objects for some project in college? I think that was the same group, but not sure....anyway that was really innovative at the time.
I've been listening to some Jean-Luc Ponty lately. That guy has a crazy style and pioneered the electric violin as well as the electric flute.

For those with no money & a strong interest in historical music:

Makunouchi bento - Trcutu
http://one.dot9.ca/2/releases.php?id=024

Makunouchi Bento is a experimental electronic duo & this free album from 'One' net label feature music from classical composers including: Erik Satie, Ravel & Anton Arensky among others.

Joe Meek
http://www.comfortstand.com/catalog/037/index.html

"Joe Meek's story is that of a man who triumphed over obstacles. Whether these obstacles were the repressive, conformist record labels and studios of pre-Beatles Britain, or not being able to sing in key, read music, or play an instrument, the producer/songwriter's apparent motto was "never say never.""

Happy listenning! :D

p.s.: post your net finds if you have any!

Music I've been into lately:

Astronaut Wife - Flying Saucer
One of the best records of the decade, IMHO. Perfect synth-pop!

Call and Response - Winds Take No Shape
       Very melancholy and beautiful.

Bjork - Vespertine
Really 50s-ish but also very futuristic.  Lots of cool string and choral parts.

Galaxie 500 - On Fire
I hear a lot of indie rock in this. Just discovered them this year  and
want to be a completist.  The rhythm section now goes by Damon and Naomi and records excellent albums as well as run their own publishing house(Exact Change Press)!

Hehe.. Thought I'd bump an old topic, I was thinking about making one along these lines, but alas, I was beaten to the punch- some time ago.

Schoolyard Heroes:
A favorite local band of mine, I was actually at a show last Friday, picked up a 7" EP of theirs..
Rock/Horror/Punk/Bloody awesome

Minor Threat:
I was reading about the "Straight Edge" movement and ran across them.
Great old punk..

Aural.laurA:

Tripped over her by accident, excellent voice
Progressive/Jazz

scarling.:

Another sort of accidental find, chain links, I like them
'shoe-gaze'/rock

Mainly Schoolyard heroes, but the others sneak in here and there.

I'm really into Adrian Belew - side one, side two, side three.
I purchased the last one just a couple of weeks ago, and the 1st and 2nd in late spring, but I'm really loving it
Cool stuff !
I really love his odd signatures, polyrythms, use of modes, and weird things. Les Claypool plays bass and he's a great musician

Cheers

This morning I looked at the DVD of the live concert of AC/DC in Paris, this was way back in 79...
I like to see those old concerts where it was all about the music and less about technology

This is what I bought today. I had 2 of them on LP but since these never play I was time to replace them by CD's. Man, I love what Vangelis can do with o few notes and some good analogue synth sounds. Sometimes so simply, yet so beautifull.

Listening to lots of Pink Floyd lately, also Tasmin Archers new album 'On'. Discovered the music of Hiromi too, maybe I'll even get an album. She's an amazing piano/keyboard player.

I also got a dvd of the recent live version of Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds, which is top notch.

Got to agree with Oren here. Smooth performers. Good song too. Unusual to see a female Bass player, and she's clearly not just 'ornamental'.

I think I'm the lucky one, this week.
Oren has sent me the full mastered Respect album for a second opinion on his production skills.
Thus I am listening to 18 superb tracks in *MP3 and in *OggVorbis formats.
The quality is fabulous and the tracks are superb.
This is really something for you guys to look forward to .... and to be very proud of.  8)
