Been having a bit of a creative slump recently but when I picked these lyrics up from my buddy it just sparked things off.
Just acoustic guitar, acoustic bass and (newly acquired) weissenborn slide guitar.

THE ROAD song lyrics

by Joel Sattler

if I cracked the code that was the word
I'd probably find that it was all absurd
chaos in the large and in the very small
but I still would have to try to climb the wall

if I had the strength to change my mind
I'd find a way to leave the past behind
even though I know what it and isn't so
still the road's the only way that I can go

some say the road
is a river that changes with every step
some say the road
is a giver that takes back everything it lets
some say the road
is a path of trust that must forever rise
to walk the road
I guess is all that we can do with our lives

when I was a child I was a child
thought everything was just to make me smile
but when I came a man I put all that away
became the hand that you see here today
when I faced my death I had to laugh
knowing all my dreams were bound to tear in half
still I lived my fate in every single day
and found the road when at last I learned to pray

some say the road
is a river that changes with every step
some say the road
is a giver that takes back everything it lets
some say the road
is a path of trust that must forever rise
to walk the road
I guess is all that we can do with our lives

God bless the road

For some reason, this makes me think of Willie Nelson. Some mighty fine ax picking and dig the back up vocals! Cool

This is a very strange song. Nicely sung and presented, but strange nevertheless.

Thanks Thom.
Appreciate the Willie reference.
I love the simplicity of some of that stuff from the old guys.

And thanks Will for taking a listen and your comment.
You know that I tend to be drawn towards 'strange' but I'm wondering what the strange element about this one is to you? To me it is pretty straight.

This may be your best to date IMHO wOO

I also though of Willie!  Thom was right in that is some mighty fine picking and that those harmonies are super.

Like Will I find nothing strange about this.

Like you I really like those old timers.  They made some great music, simple by today's standards, but great IMO.  I also like those old black blues singers.  They did a lot with one guitar, one foot and one vocal.
