Just lots of ideas.
I was wondering if the 'everyone participates' idea was still on or not.
I'll look thru my idea patch and see if I have anything that might fit for you and I.

If you guys want me to start the ball rollin'.. I got a song I wrote a few years ago that I never got around to finishing. I got the idea down, but it's definately open for changes. I don't like it as it is now. I started out wanting to get the feeling of a boring, lazy day that develops into something. Problem is that it never developed into something.  There isn't a single track on this that I intend to keep (they all need to be redone), but the idea is there-my guitar wasn't tuned, the vocals were searching for a melody, etc. etc.
Any ideas on what to do with it?
I put it in my Yahoo briefcase space, just click 'my documents' folder at the link below, then double click 'newtoday'.

http://briefcase.yahoo.com/rharve@sbcglobal.net

or I got other ideas too if this one isn't inspiring..
just wanted to try to get something going.

HI rharv,

I'm up for most anything. You guys have had to listen to my 'folk style' stuff, but I can contribute acoustic guitar/bass, electric guitar/bass, mandolin and whistle. Styles can cover blues/folk/country/rock.

Anyway, I listened to your tune and it reminds me of early REM and Crowded House in style.
If you want to pursue that one I could contribute elec bass and/or mandolin. If in the right key it could maybe take some whistle as an add-in at some point.
It certainly has potential.

I'd like it to have both electric and acoustic guitar..acoustic intially (for the intro and first verse).
I also thought the whistle may fit this one at the instrumental section.

Like I said- all tracks need redoing, so if you want to have a go at it help yourself.
If you want to suggest a change at a certain point, etc., I'm open to that too.

I guess we'd need someone to start it off with acoustic guitar first.
The easiest way would be to start recording tracks along with the original mp3, then I can replace tracks as they come in and repost it. Unless you need a copy of it without the guitar (or bass or whatever) to record along with..I'll be happy to accomodate.
How can we make it work?

This is interesting!
Biggest problem for me right now is the key!
'E' is great for guitar player but no good for whistle. That needs to be either D/G/Am, C/F/G, or Bb/Eb/F.

My preference for 'all' combinations of instruments would be 'D'.......but that's just my opinion.
If you post the chord progression I can whip up a acoustic guitar line for starters, if you like.

 Undecided
Of course the other option is.....continue as it is and have a key change to the instrumental bridge......but you would have to work that one out  Huh  I'm not that clever! Wink

Em---|G6---|Am---|C--B|
repeats
then
Am---|Cm---|Fm---|Dm---|
a couple times, then back to the top

The break was
Em..C#m..Dm..Bm..Cm..Am..Bm..Gm..Am..F#m..G.  then Harmonics on 7th fret (sorry- I'm not a guitar player- best I can do for clues!) Each chord in the break is a dotted quarter..

I suppose the G6 chord could actually be an Em over a G bass..should have wrote it Em/g eh?

Hi Bob,

here's a first take acoustic guitar recorded alongside your original file. The start and finish should match up exactly.
It's a bit rough and I just played right through, start to end, so if it's of any use as a template you can clean up or cut bits out, or whatever. The picking improves a bit as it goes on so, maybe some of the sections near the end could crop out to paste over the bad bits!  Shocked
Cheers,
James

James,

..thanks for the upload..I got it this morning, after having been up since 3 AM..so I couldn't actually play any acoustic guitar and wake everybody up..

..hmm..so I was curious about how that acoustic sound would sit with this, and your track arrived in the nick of time..cool..I like the acoustic sound..it was easier to get a feel for it listening to your track in  the mix, even than last night when I was tring to listen to the groove with cans whilst playing acoustic..I gave up on that travesty!

..I plan on having some tracks to share by tomorrow.

..nice song..this is  fun.   Grin

yeah,
this could be interesting! Smiley

The main theme is pretty sound. As I said, this was just a rough sketch.  If it were filled out a bit I'm sure a mandolin would sit quite well in the mix.  I had a quick experiment and I think a whistle may go as well, if needed.  Grin
Keep the ball rollin'.

I had a long day at work- just got in. I downloaded your file (thanks!).
I'll try to insert it and see what kinda cut/paste I can do with it if needed.
I'll also try to fix those drums; they annoy me now.

I wrote this song idea about 12 years ago and never got it to amount to anything so I'm looking forward to this.
It's 8PM here, been to work since 7AM, so I won't get much done tonight probably.
Tomorrow is a shorter day so between tomorrow and Sunday I'll see how far I can take it.
Thanks again. Looking forward to more tracks!

When you tried the whistle did it fit this key, or need the transposition?
It's Em, so key of D would work as the Dorian scale..I think you said D was good, right?
Thanks again for the acoustic track.

Any drummers want to try to make this sound real? That 80's style drum mess is the worst part to my ears..
