I watched a few minutes of the Ask Video Reason 4 tutorial DVD that I recently purchased & I managed to lay down an idea for a song.
It's obviously a very rough draft,& I used Redrum to create a step pattern drum track, but I have not yet figured out how to create start & stopping points for the drums,so it just plays all the way through this piece. The first 1:15 of this piece has music, but the rest is just fluff.
I have not even come into the remote vicinity of scratching the surface yet,but I can already see that this software will keep me happy for a lifetime!
That being said,I cannot begin to digest how anyone could possibly need or want any other synth/instrument program other than Reason 4,because the digger you deep, the larger the Reason world becomes! Cheesy
I have no basis for comparison with alot of the other software & hardware sounds that are out there, but I can say this definitively....I no longer have any desire to buy a Clavia Nord,Access Virus,Korg Oasys,or anything else I've considered in the past for that matter and once I get the Pro Tools M-Powered 8,I will most definitely be set for life-as I see it. Cool

Glad to hear you're getting started..

..you're right about Reason..the possible sound combinations are on the order of infinite.

You can select the length of your tracks in the sequencer by dragging the handles. Right left and end. You can also select the eraser in the sequencer and then click on the measures you want to get rid of.

Year in and year out there are more things to learn here. Keep up the good work..

..like the guy said, "..you're gonna like the way you sound."

Cool

Thom, that first minute or so sounds great!

You’ll make Reason talk once you master it, that I’m sure of.

II no longer have any desire to buy a {insert anything I have said in the last 40 years},or anything else I've considered in the past for that matter and once I get {insert anything I have purchased},I will most definitely be set for life-as I see it. Cool

My wife has heard this many times during our marriage.  Good luck on keeping this promise   Wink

Wyatt,

I decided to jump ahead a few chapters in the tutorial to the more in-depth sequencer segment...this instructional DVD is excellent...thanks for the recommendation! Cool

Mario,

Remember, that I do not have a wife to answer to & if I wanted to go nuts & buy every workstation out there...I can!
Just thought I'd rub it in. Evil Grin

L.R.,

What.....you mean to say that you trade off between being a hardware & software musician with the seasons? Grin
Thanks for your comment. Cool

Well I still own an alesis D4 drum machine and a Korg expander X3 and a M1.
Sometimes I make up mind I can do better just using soft-synths and dropping hardware.
The same happens with bass and guitar, I stop using Rocktron preamp and bass V-amp and I use software distortion and effects and impulse-response for simulating cabs.
But...
when everything is working fine, I change my mind again and switch back to hardware. it seems like a game... Roll Eyes

Cheers
