Title: ...more spring flowers...
Post by: Oren on April 16, 2012, 03:50:56 AM
Our little city goes wild with flowers in the spring...
The little blue flowers are vinka, and the tree next to that colourful utility box is a flowering crab apple.
That bush so laden with red flowers that it can't manage the weight - no clue... ;D

Still spring?
I thought we'd just skipped summer and gone straight to autumn :(

Brrrr!

The folks who look after "public works" in this town are a trippy lot. Murals, weird plants, odd statues - they seem to come up another whacked idea every year.
Victoria reminds me of this K-M forum... in a GOOD way  ;D

My wife and I share a small apartment in that white building with the mustard trim.
A large hedge consisting of holly and cedar trees separates our home from the adjacent orchard. Keep in mind this is downtown Victoria - some nuns from the nearby teaching hospital (in the third picture) were buried here many years ago, and their graves are unmarked; so the city of Victoria can't dig them up and sell the land to developers...
Several varieties of heritage apples grow here, as well as prune plums, pears, and cherries.

The flowering plum trees are in bloom now. Their flowers form in large clumps at the tips of branches - so heavy the the trees sag toward the street and sidewalks until the flowers fall and the leaves mature.

We get our fair share in winter and spring, Will. Then it dries up until November - drought-resistant plants are recommended.
