I'm glad you liked it, Mag.
I've been a long-time fan of music which mixes rhythms and tempos.
I'm not at all technical and can never tell you whether it is 5/4 played against 4/4, or whatever ... I just go by instinct
In the 60's some of this stuff was pioneered by the 'Graham Bond Organisation' which featured Bond on organ and mellotron, Ginger Baker on drums, Jack Bruce on bass and Dock(?) Heckstall-Smith on sax, with a couple of others I think. His music was
SO different, at the time, but had a very small take-up.
In the 70's a similar approach was taken by Ry Cooder, this time utilising guitars and mandolins to create this sort of cross-syncopation.
I have often been drawn into this style and did a couple of things with our old friend, Wyatt, with this method behind the compositions.
I have enjoyed playing on this track but felt inhibited because of it being a 'finished' piece.
I would love to make some sort of collaboration with you in the future, if you are up for it, mon ami.
I know our brother, Kara, would approve.
Thanks again,
James
p.s. for those who don't realise, I had to change Mr H-Smith's name because of the 'naughty word' filter
