My first effort at generating realtracks with PGMusic products.
The sax, drums and fiddle are generated.
The bass, chords, synth, and other sounds are my strat thru rp150
Barry threw some vocals on it for me.

Realtracks can be pretty impressive.

I would have thought it was a live drummer and a real sax player Embarrassed. The violin was close in places.

(the RP150 does a nice job)

This is the first realtrack stuff that sounded real to me!

Outstanding job!

Did the realtracks require a lot of cutting and pasting to make them sound so real?

A very catchy tune with a nice hook. 8)Not at all familiar with this Real Tracks business, but the drums are shockingly good! Shocked
Great tool to utilize if you absolutely need an authentic sounding drum track, but I still enjoy the sense of accomplishment in programming all my own music from scratch....which is why I will always stick with workstation keyboards.

Thanks guys-
Wondering what was thought about the vocal doubling, and the fiddle during chorus/turnaround.

Kara- Thanks. The bass was played on my strat.  The RP150 is a very powerful unit.  I am really liking the sounds.  The whole song started as an experimental recording of the RP150 to see how the unit worked, what sounds it had, how the USB control and audio worked, etc.   Then I suddenly got the realtracks working. Peter Gannon stepped in to help me realize there must be a beta version installed somewhere still.  So I looked in the 'add/remove' programs list and there it was.  After a reinstall I decided to test the realtracks in Realband program using the file I created in PT when recording the RP150.  Realband is really PT12 with the realtracks and basic generating features from BiaB thrown in.  They moved some icons around, but all the PT12 features are there except the TCHelicon Harmonizer plugin.  Many of the BiaB features are missing, like soloist.

Mario- all I did was render and cut away a lot of it, leaving what I thought 'fit'.  I don't think I did any pasting on this one for the realtracks.  It was the first time I got the realtracks working!  I had left a beta version of the software on my machine that was causing the realtrack generating to crash in the final release version.

Elwood- there is a LOT of control on these 'realdrums', you can pick styles, tell it when to do a fill, when to change the style, etc.   If you didn't quite like a part just render it again and it will generate different fills, etc.... then you can cut/paste it into your own creation. I didn't do this on this one; I just cut parts out.  I like the 'live' sound of it all very much. However I will continue to play most parts, and record them as audio in the foreseeable future. This is a GREAT way to write a song and get the idea across to the other players though.
BTW, I consider the network of the recording computer to be my workstation, it's USB'd to the Roland synth/sampler and RP150, and midi'd to my other gear (with an ethernet connection for backup) .  Once saved, everything is easily called up for performance and modification.

Rharv,

That RP150 sounds realy good (for those that don't know it : http://www.digitech.com/products/Multi-Effects/RP150.php).
I have myself an RP50, but I'm realy impressed by that sound you have, it would be a good idea to write a small review of it in our new hardware section  Grin
I somehow can't get that realy aggresive bass sound you have and I'm not sure if it comes from my bass (a CORT B4) or from the RP50.

Back to the song :
The drums sound realy as a real drummer,  could fool everybody.
The bass : Lie I said allready, I especialy like the way how it is played, modest and a nice drive (good muting of the short notes)
I've asked Azell about the sax, since she plays the real thing, and she confirmed that it is pretty good, sounds spot on. Phrases are a bit short in certain spots.
The fiddle sounds right to me, but I have no idea how that should sound TBH
Vocal doubling ?

I ran the vocals through OBTune
Then I duplicated the track, ran it though OBTune pushing it 4 cents sharp and slid the second track to start a hair ahead of the original, then panned the two slightly.
The effect here is pretty cool, but it may have lost something in the mp3

I didn't know about the RP150 but it seems to have great tones in it
This is far cheaper than Line6 products, don't know how quality compares...
Anyway this is really realistic, and due to the good mix I can appreciate all the instruments
Well done

Cheers

This is a seriously impressive piece of kit, and a well thought out tune to showcase it. Drums were very imprssive. The vocal double works well for me - an interesting idea. Fiddle is almost there, but then this in a very difficult instrument to emulate.

Gets a thumbs up from me!

Thanks guys!

I've been working on the fiddle sound to make it more real.  Trying to remove some of the resonance from it.  Some of the licks are keepers; may try generating it again and see what it comes up with.
