Kara,
Looks very good! wOO

In addition, that operating system, AV Linux - http://www.bandshed.net/AVLinux.html - appears to contain all the features a musician would want.
I would like to support a more independent O/S release, and this may be the one.
(Ubuntu is a little too closely connected with the world of commercial software for my complete comfort...)

Well AV linux does look interesting, except perhaps this
Quote from the website :
It is important to note that AV Linux is not GPL and contains software that is not open-source

Unfortunately this is happening to a lot of front-line distros lately.

I've been (slowly) experimenting with creating a complete DAW from scratch using just the debian squeeze minimum install as the base. I particularly wanted to avoid installing anything that really was not needed. It has a simple plain desktop with no graphic 'toys'.

It's coming on very well. So far, the only problems I've had have been discovering the monitor resolution (seems to be a common problem with some monitors) - now fixed - and getting USB1 kit to be seen. I still can't work out that one although USB2 stuff seems fine.

Dynebolic - http://dynebolic.org/index.php?show=available - still fascinates me, but it requires a degree of knowlege and commitment to the craft that I haven't yet developed.

Plus, the flashy little "perks" of life on the web provided by proprietary software (included in the major distros, like Adobe Flash player) are hard to resist.
