Title: Congruent FX
Post by: Wyatt on November 26, 2009, 10:55:48 PM
This is the actual track I made for the video here:

The track was too long for the space I had left on the video.  :D

YOu are welcome to use any of these in your productions.

Yow! :-
(this goes a step or two beyond where I can follow - but it it has just got to be important)
...still digesting  ;D...

I appreciate your comments, Oren. Thank you for helping me to realize that I haven't really explained
very well where I'm coming from. To provide a little context here:

For the last few months..I have been working on music that helps the intellect unhook.   :P

I have done meditation music before..music that really puts you in the zone..but I wanted something a little
different than that..music that you can play in the room that helps you be a little more right brained..that
helps you slip out of time..that helps you be more creative. Music that, while it doesn't demand that you stop
what you're doing to listen to it, still has subtlety and depth if you do.

As for this track, I think of it as a collection of sounds, rather than a song in its own right..

I would tend to use one or two or three bits of this as loops, to embellish a larger piece.

I am liking the seamless control I have in midi, of tempo and pitch.

Audio I can stretch, or pitch-shift, but only just a very small amount before it gets artifacted.

Midi on the other hand will bend over backwards to accommodate you.  :D

Most folks who use midi have assigned different instruments to a midi track..like
using a saxaphone instead of a flute, for example. That's pretty common.

What I did differently here, is to assign midi instruments to a midi drum track. Then it started to become
a little unhinged..a bit unexpected..as I had hoped.

And this is just the tip of a very large iceberg.

* Thank you kara. I appreciate you taking the time to listen and comment.

Different but very interesting piece.

Kind of a melodic Captain Beefheart.

All this needs, IMHO, is a few variations in theme to be a complete song.

Keep experimenting

The concept of applying mathematical tools to create organized sound accompanied by random associated pitch/time phenomena is fascinating to me.
 And I hear some very talented folk (ya, you qualify, Wyatt... :D) using these various techniques to make amazing music. :;
