..this is Terrific!!

Masterful performance, arrangement, and composition.

I grew up on Brubeck, so this grabbed me right out of the starting gate..

Yo Mario!

I never did "grow up", and I don't know who Brubeck is, but this little number really cooks!  Grin

Thom, Thanx for the extremely kind review.

BiaB is a good piece of software. It’s great for practicing with and you can get some stellar results from it with a little tweaking here and there.

Ahh, the sadness of the new generation ... never listened to Brubeck, but admire guys who look like Hulk Hogan Smiley

Mario: nice playing. It's interesting that most of the pieces I hear in 5/4 remind me of Take 5. Probably the underlying percussion patterns. But, yours is certainly different enough! I liked it.

Best,

Thanx bvdp for the very kind review.

You don’t know how hard it was NOT to play Take 5 while I was recording this.

If only I could play my sax as well as Paul Desmond (who wrote the piece) did! Guess I can use the fact that he played alto and I play tenor as an excuse ... but that won't go very far.

I go to a camp every year and the sax specialist there is a very, very good player. But, not really into jazz. Anyway, he played it last year at show-and-tell night. He's the only other player I've ever heard who comes close to the beautiful tone that Desmond had. Quite wonderful to listen to. Esp. live.

Getting back to 5/4 ... I think that some middle-eastern music is written in this time as well. And, again from memory, I think that a few classical composers played with it as well.

I've avoided it since I'm afraid that whatever I come up with will sound like Take 5 Smiley

Followup on 5/4 ... decent article here

which includes the dance beats I referenced earlier.
