Title: Here we go again
Post by: folderol on August 03, 2008, 10:02:54 PM
This is a fairly old track that I started looking at yesterday intending to just correct a few defects and make a new clean recording, but you know how it is, I ended up making a completely new mix. It now uses mostly Zyn, but three of the voices come from my Sound Canvas.

Incidentally the title comes from a friends comment the first time she heard it :)

Its getting to where I would know this was yours, even if I didn't already know,
if you know what I mean.  :)

You have a real distinctive style. Nice progression, and I like the key change..

..loops nicely too.

Yep,I agree with Wyatt-you can indeed recognize the Folderol trademark sound...makes me think of the movie;"Charlie & The Chocolate Factory...some nice nostalgia from when I was a wee rug-rat. :D

Thanks a lot guys :D

Friends from way before I got on the 'net have said they can recognise my style :o It worried me at first until I realised it was meant kindly ::)

Hey, just had a fun thought. Imagine in years to come some high-brow music discussion:

blah blah blah. Of course that was performed in the Folderol style. blah blah blah.

Heh! I should be so lucky ;D

Puts me in mind of *Ghost riders in the sky*.
I can just about hear ol' Frankie Laine singing on this one.  :D

Thanks again guys for your comments. I learn something new about my own work each time I come here 8)

@offthewall
Now I never thought of that, but yes, I can see what you mean.

@Wyatt
Thinking about it there a distinct gallop to the rhythm. As I said, this idea never occurred to me before.

ok, Azell has been a busy bee  ;)

Here is a 'rough' translation of the french lyrics she wrote for the song

This melody makes me vibrate
She sends me to a country of softness and happiness
I'm flying to a place that talks about you
Time is passing
A couple of notes that change the time
and transport me back in my youth
This melody of the child that is growing
And softly makes his way in live
To the feeling of the grown ups
That they call the feelings of adolescents
I think it was the year of my 12 years
And you weren't older

A melody that comes from the past
and gives birth to a moment of feelings
forgotten by the burden of live
in places where we grew up
Each of us in his own live
Tell me, what did you do in your live?
Did you find happiness?
You, who wanted to build a paradise
Did you find the happiness
of all your child dreams ?
I know, it was the year of our 12 years
We are so far from that now

Believe me, it sounds better in french then in my average english  ;D

If the Gypsies had these sounds to work with, I imagine they would come up with something very much like this. To me it sounds very eastern European...

Good tune, too!  ;D

For me this had a happy-go-lucky feel to it.

I really liked this one.  I thought the production was top shelf all the way.  Great sounds and melodies.

Thanks guys.

When a friends two daughters heard the first version of this, they had a little giggle then jumped up and did a sort of stylised Egyptian hieroglyphics dance.

They's all growed up now <sigh>

Nice theme, well developped throughout the song (surprising half tone shift in the middle, works well).
The only thing that IMO could be improved is the bass, it is a bit static to my ears (could use some variation, to make it more lively).

I think you can't deny such a thing exhists, and I must say I like your style since it have a tendency to use enough variations and its melodies are most of the time catchy and keep up the attention.

This Music auditorium forum is open to everyone but the 'usual suspects' are about 10-12 persons and I believe if we submit 4 or 5 songs anonymously and we try to guess the author there'll be no or few mistakes.
(unless we try to hide our style of course)

Anyway I like how this is structured and it works well. Excellent arrangement and the choice of the right sound for each part is making the difference.
Cool track

Cheers

Thanks again.

@Frederik
Listening again, I can see what you mean. The bass does tend to 'plod'. I will have to take another look at this.

@LR
I think you are probably right. I guess all our music has it's own 'genetic code' even when we try to go out of style.
