When I was browsing the RealDrums in BiaB I found a style and came up with a song-idea. I recently got Powertracks and decided to work out this songconcept and use it to learn to use PowerTracks. All music was generated by BiaB, all instruments are Roland VSC and producing was done in PT.
I had a lot of fun creating this track and I hope you'll like it.

As mentioned before; I'm in a learning curve so I welcome your feedback!

Mike

This is good by any standard, especially as a first posting.

I really like the style, and the song. Great intro, gives it that informal feel. Lovely bit of fiddle from 3:02.

The only (very slight) suggestion I would make would be to drop out the background sounds completely once the song gets under way until you're almost at the end.

This is going immediately into my 'keep' folder.

If you have a poem, I have a tune, and we exchange these, we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.

 Cheesy
Really interesting stuff here, Mike.
As I'm not acquainted at all with BiaB or PT it's quite fascinating to hear how much can be generated in there. That's sure some hoe-down ya got goin!  Shocked
Are they all your own vocals?

Hi Mike,

This is not really my brand of music, but I am very impressed by your mixing talents for someone who is just breaking into a pc program-very well done!

I don't really agree with Folderol's suggestion, only because I gather that you intentionally left the sounds effects track at a consistent level to emulate the atmosphere of a live performance...would that be an accurate interpretation?

In any event,I think it's laid out beautifully.

As a long time Powertracks user I can safely say you are well on your way. It took me many many tries to approach this level.
Very nice job getting the setting, the mix and the feel of this piece.  Your vocals kept my interest; very personal and comfortable. Nice job.

It could use some mastering, but it's an exceptional start.
Isn't Powertracks a great program? I can't believe they sell it for what they do.
Have fun- you're doing great. Loved it.

Mike,

First class effort! Inventive use of audience effects. Nice blend of vocals, BIAB, and RealDrums.

Thanks for the listen and the kind comments!

@folderol and Thom: I kept the background in the whole song in an attempt to give a "life" feel to the track. Might be to loud however. I will check it with "fresh" ears next week.

@offthewall: BiaB is an auto-accompaniment program, PT is a sequensing prog. All vocals are mine. The lead was recorded in one take. For the chorus I recorded (and sang) on another track in the same voicing and used TC-auto-harmonisation (1 up and 1 down) Then I sang another harmony myself and panned the different harmonys.

@rharv: I'm indeed impressed with PT. But don't mention the PG-staff that they sell it too cheap: prices might go up Wink You mentioned the track could use some mastering. Could you please give me some hints and tips on this?

Once again thanks for listening everyone!

I'm very, very impressed with your performance. Great singing that rings true, and every bit as good as in stuff I've listened to live or on records. Sounds live and has real presence.  Great use of the style and the whole arrangement. I'd be happy to be able to half so well after having done this for years  Cheesy

My current primary interest is jazz, but I used to listen to bluegrass/folk songs in this genre and I like your song very much.

Excellent work, you should be very much encouraged by all the great feedback.

Thanks Dan,

I AM encouraged by all the great feedback I got. I even play this song (the recording) sometimes during the breaks on my gigs and watch how the people react. (that gives a KICK) I am working to find a way to  fit this song into my repertoire. People tend to label you even before you can showcase all the styles you like and can perform.

Mike, you’re off to a great start!

You have your country down to a science! All of the instrumentation was outstanding.  Especially so as it is all done via the Roland VCS. That I really have a hard time believing, as they were the most realistic sounding instruments I’ve ever heard from the VCS!  Great job there.

Your vox and harmonies were spot on. Super!

I do agree with folderol though about the background sounds.  They were super at the start, especially during the tune up, but I felt that they got in the way of the music during the song.  They would be ok at the beginning and the end of the song but IMHO this song is too good to have those kinds of effects in them.  BUT that is nitpicking for sure!

Excellent musicianship - MarioD
