I must confess to being bewildered this month as Midi-mangling is not my thing at all! I very rarely use midi as I'm mainly an old-school 'real instruments' type of guy who has only recently come into this strange world of computer technology. But, I keep on saying that the best way to learn is to rise to a challenge.....to me, that's one of the best things about KVR contests, so here it is !!

Nice melodic song, and I like that little whistle. Good luck with the contest And now, some constructive critics Do I hear some timing issues in certain spots ? I definitively hear a muddy mid range

Thanks for the comments, Kara. Yes, some timing issues arising from delays which are implicit in the presets that I used for the midi instruments. I did try to go into the parameters to do some editing.....but found it 'out of my league'. Again, you're right about the 'muddy' mid-range....but mastering EQ is another talent which I am trying to get to grips with. I hate to repeat myself.......but this is exactly how I learn..........Thanks for the input. I promise to do better next time!

Hi Offthewall Midi or not, this is definitely in your own style. Very nice thing with soft melody, and a very original 'countryside' feel. I like it
Cheers

that sounds like a real recorder, not a midi instrument. What is going on here? What is the KVR contest rules? very interesting piece of music.

The KVR contest rules state that you should use the supplied midi file 'as a basis' for your composition. Which means you can add anything you like to it!

that sounds like a real recorder, not a midi instrument +1. Yes. I like the "not clean", not perfect play and atmosphere of thge instruments. Good work. Daniel

Nice melodic piece that conjures up a rural setting in my mind. Very visual piece. Nice.

I dont know if this is going to make any sense, but listening to this makes me feel like I'm drunkenly walking through an Irish Spring commercial. The recorder does sound very real. I think that this piece is definately a success in that it got you to do some things that you wouldnt normally do. I'm a total midiot myself so I admire your courage. Thanks for sharing it

Thanks for the comments.....always appreciated. @Van Greco........I, too, felt like I was drunkenly walking when I did this!! ......and you're right...I certainly learned some things from the challenge. Some of this learning may actually help me in future recordings! And, by the way, it's not a recorder but a penny-whistle (AKA, tin-whistle, or Irish-whistle). Quite a different beast in the right hands. Maybe when I am more adept at playing it you may notice the considerable difference in tonal quality and melodic nuance.

Already like how it sounds! Not sure about the overall result, the timing stuff was throwing me a bit. But anything that includes a learning process is usually worth the effort.
