I did actually pick one up earlier this year (as usual, at my local flea market) for a very small price .... but, Man .... I'm really struggling to learn to play the darn thing. I did use it once, when I first got it, on our Elderly Bros song, 'Elderly Waltz'. James

My lady took violin lessons when she was a kid, and said it was real hard. Between that and your input at the time, looking back I am happy I didn't build one.

I'm starting to hate this thread It's making me feel so inadequate. My daughter started to learn violin when she was at school and I helped her out a bit by giving her some guitar accompaniment. I tried to pick it up myself a bit but not with much success. My grandparents both came from Shetland, which has always had a great tradition of fiddlers. If you search YouTube for Shetland fiddlers you will see why. This reminded me of a band who I knew very well in the 70's, when we did the same circuit of festivals together. They were Silly Wizard and had a very young Shetland fiddler. There is some great footage of them on YouTube too. Here is a classic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1gRDQEIiSM&feature=related James
