Being one of the greatest fans of Yellowcard, I loved the electric Violin!
Here's a short video of how electric Violins are made Smiley http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKxZfGmR3vE

Doesn"t it look simple explained like this  Roll Eyes
Instrument builders are the finest craftsman around

Beside the fact you have to know how to play the violin....

I had looked into building guitars many years ago, so I didn't hesitate to pick up a set of plans to build an electric violin a year or so ago.

[They said I won the auction, but then why did I still have to pay? ]   Cheesy

The picture looked a lot like this:

Then I received the plans..one sheet of paper. Maybe they should have called it a plan? [singular]

Not too bad though..I've seen a lot worse plans for building boats.     Tongue

So I started pricing the components, and I found that I could actually buy two different electric violins that were already built for around a hundred bucks less, brand new.

Then there was this other factor:

Like the man said!!

Beside the fact you have to know how to play the violin....

 Roll Eyes
I did actually pick one up earlier this year (as usual, at my local flea market) for a very small price ....
but, Man .... I'm really struggling to learn to play the darn thing.
I did use it once, when I first got it, on our Elderly Bros song, 'Elderly Waltz'.  Cool

You get some of the most interesting deals on musical instruments I've ever heard of!   Cheesy

My lady took violin lessons when she was a kid, and said it was real hard.

Between that and your input at the time, looking back I am happy I didn't build one.

Neither do I, but I couldn't get it out of my mind when I heard this lovely Irish gal play
electric violin in one of Michael Flatley's productions.

I'm starting to hate this thread  Roll Eyes  It's making me feel so inadequate. My daughter started to learn violin when she was at school and I helped her out a bit by giving her some guitar accompaniment. I tried to pick it up myself a bit but not with much success.

My grandparents both came from Shetland, which has always had a great tradition of fiddlers. If you search YouTube for Shetland fiddlers you will see why.

This reminded me of a band who I knew very well in the 70's, when we did the same circuit of festivals together. They were Silly Wizard and had a very young Shetland fiddler.  There is some great footage of them on YouTube too.
Here is a classic.
