Long time I didn't post a real jazz song here, the world needs more jazz...

This is our latest baby, 'La Plume'
Recorded from the PA during our last rehearsal.
A couple of little playing errors, but that's where rehearsal is for, and consider it as the proof that it was played live.

Loved it

I like the rhythm section, two thumbs up for the guitarist, but I think he ought to take a lead or two! The vocal was absolutely super, outstanding job Azell  wOO wOO

Thank you very much Mario, jazz in general doesn't seem very popular around here Smiley

Why isn't there any guitar lead in the song ?
Simply because the guitarist was the person that was missing on the rehearsal !
The guitar you here comes from my Tyros keyboard, and since I'm no guitar player I certainly couldn't play a good guitar

I don't think it's unpopular, just that it's not any easy style to master and those of us that like to play along have difficulty (speaking for myself really).

A happy bit of songwriting and performance!

It is difficult to approach jazz, as a musician or as a listener, because jazz people tend to have a lot of unspoken "rules" regarding composition and performance that make the genre inaccessible (compared to rock, country, blues, and folk).
My own approach is to enjoy listening to those jazz recordings that appeal to my sense of music, and to play jazz bass and jazz guitar as it sounds best to me...
Unfortunately, I get a lot of "Hey, that's not jazz!" or "You can't do that in this type of jazz." or "Play it the we we wrote it..."

...and all along, I thought jazz was about improvisation... Cheesy

Hey, this is excellent  Grin

This belong to the french jazz tradition.
Some of the instrumental parts could be a soundtrack for a Jacques Tati movie  Wink
And Azel's vocal is in the mood of the french jazz touch.

Thanks!

Shocked WOW ... that is EXACTLY how I have always felt about this genre

That being said ... this is a super version of a classy song, expertly performed.  Cheesy
