Hi guys, I have a question about legal stuff which I was hoping some of you might be able to help me with.

Percy and I did some voiceover recordings for someone and they want us to give them the authorship rights for the recordings in question. While authorship is a complex issue, coupled with distribution rights and such, we are not sure about what's common in such issues and were hoping for some insights and perhaps experience from you all.

Marc,

This is a highly technical matter and above all it depends on the country, copy right laws are different in different countries. So, you could get a number of answers here which doesn't apply to your situation.
My best advice : in the Netherlands there has to be an equivalent of the Belgium SABAM i guess (http://www.sabam.be/), call them, explain your situation and ask them what to do, there are the professionals.

k

Edit : Found a couple of Dutch sites
http://www.bumastemra.nl/nl-NL/ : the equivalnet of SABAM in Belgium
http://www.auteursrecht.nl/auteursrecht/home.asp?metnaam=auteursrecht
http://www.sena.nl/

Edit 2 Smiley
This explains your situation : http://www.auteursrecht.nl/auteursrecht/pagina.asp?pagkey=22254

Yes!

On a personal note: do the work, enjoy the process, and then let it go. Be happy - make music.
So many talented musicians I know spend more time on legal matters and "business" than the actual music. Over time, the creative energy diminishes, and their art begins to sound repetitive and uninspired.
Please, don't sell your soul for rock and roll... Tongue Wink

Marc,

Here you should find your answers: http://www.bumastemra.nl/nl-NL/

Do note, once you are registerd with bumasterma, you'll have to pay 0.8 euro for each CD you press. This money will return to you as author, but you'll loose some of that 0.8 euro due to an adminsitration fee.

Thanks guys, we'd already been looking at the stemra information but there's a lot of new information here. Oren - don't worry, we'll still be our musical selves! Smiley
