Jack rack channels ?

Yesterday I did a small test with Hydrogen, a great drum sequencer by the way !!
Now, I noticed that hydrogen has 4 fx effect slots. It look to me that those are aux sends, since every channel has a send level and the fx slot has a retern level.
This is nice if you want to add some reverb to your channel, but of no use if you want to insert a compressor....
So, I started playing with jackrack, and here there are a couple of things not clear.
It looks like in jack rack you can define a number of channels, that's a good start, but it's not clear to me how to use those channels?
1. If you start inserting fx in jack rack, I didn't find a way to determine in which channel you insert those?
2. It looks like jack rack doesn't publish those channels in the jack patchbay, it only has 2 input L+R
So, my question is how to root an input to a certain channel in jack rack and how to organize plugins by channel.
The goal is to route the separate outputs of hydrogen to different channels in jack rack...
Another solution would be to rout every hydrogen output to a separate jack rack, which is possible (tested yesterday) but what is the use then of channels in jack rack ?

This is presently way beyond me, but my inclination under actual studio conditions is to record each drum separately on to its own track in the recorder (Ardour), and then add EQ and effects to the individual digital audio tracks.
Old-school, I know, but it keeps each instrument distinct, and everything nicely organized for mixdown or further processing.

Yep, that's the easy way to do
And you can easily link every drumtrack to an input of ardour.
I was just curious about jack rack

I've only use jack rack once so what I did was probably quite wrong
I had it set for 4 channels
Two of the inputs I routed to Zyn. in qjCtrl
The other two to the audio card's input
1 & 3 outputs were connected to the audio card's LH out
and 2 & 4 to the RH out
Then when I added effects, as well as enabling them I enabled the wet/dry dialog
I then unlocked the dialog showing the individual channels.
All the ones I didn't want to have that particular effect I then set all the way to 'dry'.
It worked, but I guess it could get messy if you have a lot of different channels.
I didn't try mono-stero conversions although I think there are effects for it.
