The very theme song that encapsulates my love life(as it were). Tongue

Here is my karoake version of the Mike & The Mechanics song:

Taken in,taken in again
Wrapped around the finger of some fair-weather friend
Caught up in the promises left out in the end

No pride,taken for a ride
You say I'm the only one when I look in your eyes
I want to believe you,but you know how to lie

And if you say you understand I don't believe it
And when you reach out for my hand I don't believe it
And if you say you take the blame I don't believe it
And if you say tht nothing's changed I don't believe, don't believe it

Taken in,taken in again
Someone saw me coming,a fool without a friend
There's one born every minute and you're looking at him

And if you say you want me near I don't believe it
And when your holding back the tears I don't believe it
And when you swear that you are mine I don't believe it
And it's your heart that's on the line,I don't believe it,don't believe it

Taken in,Taken in again
Wrapped around the finger of some fair-weather friend
Caught up in the promises left out in the end

No pride,taken for a ride
You say I'm the only one when I look in your eyes
I'd love to believe you,but you know how to lie

When you say you want me near I don't believe it
And when you're holding back the tears I don't believe it

Oh there's one born every minute and you're looking at him

Taken in,taken in again
Someone saw me coming,a fool without a friend

I want to believe you

When you say you understand

When you reach out for my hand

Oh,I wish I could believe you

I don't know the original, so I'll take your version for the original  Wink
A good production with good sounds and a good arrangement, everything to make a good song !

I hear you're taking assurance when you sing, it sounds realy great.
Only slight remark I could have, is the type of reverb used on your voice. It sound a bit as you're not singing in the same room as the rest of the band.. ?
Could be only me allso of course, as I know I'm not good with reverb myself  Grin

Hmm, seems the 'net jast ate my reply Sad

... so I'll try again.

Like Kara I don't know this song.

The vocal sounds fine to me, and I think I detect increased confidence Smiley

The stereo width seems rather narrow - listening on headphones at the moment- - is that intentional?

Kara,

Singing in the same room as the rest of the band...are you kidding?Does this production really sound as though a band did it? Huh Grin

I'd be incredibly flattered if you actually thought that!

Seriously though,I originally tried recording my vocals with my monitors on while using headphones, but because of the high gain level on my mixer,I was getting this really boxy phase/echo type of sound that was really terrible,so I shut my monitors off and just used the headphones.

I guess I used a little too much reverb and if I had figured how to insert multiple effects on my Zoom recorder, than it would have come out better-like say I added a chorus effect as well.

Thanks for your kind words. Smiley

Will,

Yeah, sometimes the high level of net-traffic will squander your posts,as it's happened to me once.

As for the narrow stereo width, that was certainly not intentional,as I worked very hard on this piece to make it sound professional(within reason),but I failed to do that, since I am still just an amatuer studio guy.

I've been recording music on keyboard workstations for 19 years, but I've only had a complete studio for like 6 or 7 months,so I have alot to learn still and I don't have the most professional gear that's out there either.

Thanks for your comments. Smiley

As a big fan of that band.....I love this version. It's a spot on arrangement!
If you'll forgive my ignorance....have you played everything yourself or is some of the backing taken from BIAB files or such-like.
Great stuff.

James,

It's really nice to share this music with a fellow fan of this band and I am very flattered that you love this version!

Quite honestly,I actually don't know what a BIAB file is. ???You'll have to forgive my ignorance. Grin

All the instruments you heard were performed by myself with my Korg Triton Extreme keyboard and I am doubley flattered that you thought I had some outside assistance-you're too kind! Grin

Thanks a mint for your generous review of my rendition-much appreciated.

Cheers,

Thanks for the info.
I, too, am bewildered by these BIAB users but I thought that your production was so good it must be 'assisted' !
Well done indeed.

Thom, as a BiaB user I knew the backing tracks were NOT done using it.

However I did think the backing tracks were a purchased! You did a fantastic job on them!

PS – the vocal was also outstanding.

Mario,

This cover was definately a labor of love for me and I cannot imagine using any sort of pre-programed accompaniment,as I will only choose to do songs I can complete on my own-even if the results end up sounding like a cheesy karoake tune-it's still more rewarding & satisfying to create something with what hardware you've got.

Thanks very much for your compliments-much appreciated. Cheesy

Thom,

Smooth production, and a very expressive vocal performance. Suits my taste better than the original.

That home studio of yours is churning out some very impressive sounds, of late!

Well done Thom !
This is excellent. I vaguely recall the original and I didn't particularly like that.
This has a very nice feel, and it's a great production.
Congratulations for the vocals. I think this track is perfect for your vocal-style

Cheers
